The region
Exmoor is situated in South West Britain, specifically across West Somerset and North Devon. Often referred to as England's best kept secret, Exmoor is a wonderful holiday destination for anyone looking for a holiday in the great outdoors! There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets.

Porlock Weir has a quaint little harbour and its own unique charm; the port has a long and colourful history. Today Porlock Weir is a quiet harbour and a thriving community that welcomes tourists every year, many of whom come to enjoy the pretty scenery, shops, tea rooms, pubs and local cuisine. On a fine day, the South West Coast Path offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views across Porlock Weir and the bay. The coastal footpath links up with many other walking trails including Culbone, home to the smallest church in England. One of the more unusual attractions at Porlock Weir is the submerged forest. At low tide, the remains of ancient tree trunks arise from the grey clay soil. These desiccated stumps are the last remaining evidence of a forest that, once upon a time, lay five miles inland.

The property is spacious. The kitchen is excellently well equipped and there is plenty of comfortable seating for all, There are lovely views of the sea from all the windows. Beware of the differing levels upstairs. The en-suite shower is a tight fit but the bathroom has plenty of space. The heating is very good and efficient. And the nearest pub is only 5 mins walk away. It is excellent but there is a need to book for a meal.

The cottage was lovely and the view amazing. For such a large cottage, it was always very warm and cozy. As mentioned by others, all aspects of the car parking area is challenging - both getting in and out. Not sure how a big car would manage it. That said it didn't ruin our stay - the view more than made up for it!

The size of the property was good. The house is very cold but then it is an old cottage. Not suitable for people with asthma or mould allergies,as the house is very damp. Plaster coming off walls in sitting room. Smells very strongly of damp. Even so,we have booked to go back again next year. Not suitable for the less fit as there is a short, but very steep hill down to the hub of the village and beach.

Manage your expectations. The position of the Crows Nest means there are beautiful views and sunsets to enjoy. The condition of the cottage itself is below what we would have expected; superficially it looked clean and the bed linen was fresh, but it would benefit significantly from a deep clean, there is a lot of black mold and ingrained dirt. We were not made aware of people living in the flat on the 3rd floor of the house, they were noisy at night and share the internet with the Crows Nest which reduced the signal on some evenings to the point where we could not watch TV.

Hi We had a wonderful stay. The cottage location is out of this world. However, we had stayed before and we mentioned cleanliness. Yes it was a bit tidier than before but I think you will find that there are numerous items clustering up every single cupboard, dresser and drawer that should be removed. The items are so old they add a musty smell to the cottage which is quite unpleasant. The trunk in the dining room is full of broken ceramics and wrapped in 20 year old paper. The are items in the cabinet in the dining room that I would not feel comfortable touching let alone using. The living room storage is similar. The whole place needs a de- cluttering. A loverly cottage we will return but needs these things addressing.

Characterful cosy and comfortable cottage with plenty of space and in a fantastic location with spectacular views. It was a joy waking to the sound of the sea (and the rain dripping off the thatched roof). Great for walks without having to use the car as just a hop from the SW coast path and we discovered an easy woodland walk to Porlock so you didn't have to go on the road at all. Very peaceful thanks to picking a very out of season weekend with just a few other souls about and some ambitious surfers. Very much enjoyed the quiz night in the Ship at Porlock on Friday night and the lovely woodburning stove in the cottage after a cold February walk.
