Melville House

8/10 Good

"The Melville is a perfect location! the Melville is a historic property, so don't expect modern, but for what we wanted it was perfect - the location AND onsite parking! It was also next door to the Vanderbilt Hotel and we enjoyed their cocktails on the rooftop with gorgeous views of the harbor and watched the sunset. Yes, it's old but charming. There is so much to do in Newport that really, all we did at the Melville House was sleep. The bed was comfortable, shower were too small but I managed; all in all it is a good value. Oh, you got to go to Co-Dough for doughnuts and cinnamon rolls - delicious!!!"

"We were warmly greeted by Cindy and her friendly staff. We were given detailed information to assist with our stay. We stayed in suite 11 with 2 BR, each had their own private bathroom. This was a great deal for 2 rooms. There was a nice sized kitchenette and a sitting area with a TV. The bedrooms were nice and comfortable. There was a table and chairs on the deck outside our door looking onto a private courtyard with a brick patio allowing for more seating. Our entrance was in the back, separate from the other suites. This was not a problem at all. Parking was off premises, but also was not a problem. The location was excellent, close to the water and near our activities. The icing on the cake was the nice dining room on the third floor with a kitchen the staff used to make a delicious gourmet breakfast every morning. We could eat in the AC or out on the third floor deck with a view of the water. Our stay was very pleasant. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend the Outlook Inn."

"The location is wonderful! Can’t beat it. The size of the room is very good. I like that there is a refrigerator and option for coffee. (They serve fresh coffee in the lobby but it was nice to have a Keurig in the room) the bathroom was sub-par. Had to remove the stopper in the sink because water wouldn’t drain. It stayed shut. The shower was extremely tired. Cheap, Lyme build up on shower head. We did not use it. The hotel itself needs updating. For $600 for one night I expected more. But… I love the location."
