If it's your first time travelling during the COVID-19 outbreak, you'll notice plenty of new regulations and rules in place. Follow these tips and make your trip to Northeast a smooth one:

• Before committing to anything, see if any travel restrictions or bans apply — in both your origin and destination. Get the latest updates by reviewing official government websites.
• Keep your face mask on even during airport screening. A TSA officer will ask you to lower your mask temporarily for ID purposes.
• To reduce the risk of cross-contamination, place your boarding pass on the scanner yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your pass directly to a TSA employee.
• One liquid hand sanitizer container is now permitted in your carry-on bag. It must not be larger than 12 oz (350 ml), and you'll need to take it out of your bag for scanning.
• Remove personal items from your pocket, like your phone, keys and wallet, and place them in your carry-on instead of into bins. This will reduce handling during the screening process.
• Separate any food you're carrying for screening. Food items often set off the alarm. Placing them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA agent to touch and inspect your belongings.

As countries begin to open their borders, most airlines have resumed business with new measures including physical distancing and an increased supply of face masks, gloves and sanitizer. Here's what a number of carriers are doing to help limit the spread of COVID-19:

• United Airlines - this airline is known for providing passenger masks and cleaning with disinfectant.
• Southwest Airlines - this airline is known for providing passenger masks and cleaning with disinfectant.
• Frontier Airlines - this airline is known for electrostatic cleaning and conducting passenger temperature checks.
