Great property in a not-so-great area of Oakland. The five block walk to the nearest BART station (19th St Oakland) can feel rather unsafe at night, so taking an Uber to/from the hotel to your destination is recommended. The rooms were spacious, and the gym was well-equipped with a couple of Peloton bikes. Staff were friendly and helpful, though room service seemed to be on a request basis because my room was not serviced at all during my stay. I don't actually mind this, but would have appreciated a change of towels and the trash to be removed every couple of days - the cleaning staff were happy to do this when I approached them in the hallway. Overall, very happy with the stay.

The Kissel is a very nice, chic property with very clean, comfortable rooms, albeit small. The front desk staff were very friendly, but one of the bartenders (taller Asian lady) was uninviting and dismissive with her disposition towards me requesting a specific type of drink. I also found the manager's response to my concern about dozens of flies circling in the center of the lobby to be a bit dismissive. This hotel has great potential but the staff could definitely be more professional and service oriented,

The Kissel looks nice/ contemporary. My only challenge was the nightclub across from it - music was blasting Saturday until 1:00 AM or so.
