"it is my first time to Matera, i was here in late September, 1 week ago. I spent an overnight at Corte San Pietro. The cave hotel is located in a good location, on Sasso Caveoso, is 20-25 mins walk from Matera Central Train Station. It is just next to the 2 famous rock churches, San Pietro Barisano and Church of Santa Maria de Idris and about 10 mins walk up to Duomo Cathedral with a great view. The restaurants nearby are fantastic. The room is spacious, clean and tidy. It my first time staying in a Cave, there isn't much light except the front door , there are 2 pull out windows built into the door. But its opens out to the street, so want privacy, won't open these built in windows. The reception team has been fantastic, helping me with booking the day tour as soon as I arrived at 10.30am, places to visit and local restaurants for food and drinks. I had to leave for an early train ride, their breakfast starts at 8 am, the hotel staff was kind to pre arrange a simple breakfast for me at 6.50 am as I have the taxi to pick up at 7.15 am. The staff are mostly locals in Matera, so i get to ask and learn a lot from them about the local culture and other information. I should have stay 2 night instead of 1 night. Didnt have time to visit the caves churches , known as the Park of the Rupestrain Churches, It is located across the deep Gravina canyon, from the 2 Sassi districts. Bring your trek shoes as some areas are quite steep to climb up to get to these cave churches"

"Beautiful place. Great charm and character. Everything was lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaraunt was spectacular. The rooms are carved into the caves so each one is unique. I was amazed how they were able to engineer plumbing and electricity in these caves. The only slight issue was the A/C was not working very well. Not a big deal. I would definitely stay here again and recommend others to stay also."
