Dating back to the 17th century, this quirky Grade II-listed cottage oozes style and luxurious touches, a perfect couple’s retreat. Upside down by design, taking full advantage of the views of the castle across Richmond’s quaint rooftops. With a small entrance for boots and coats, a glass balustrade climbs up to the open-plan living space on the first floor. With traditional features combined with contemporary furnishings, Frenchgate Mews has a truly welcoming style. The living space incorporates a modern shaker-style kitchen, dining table for two with luxury padded chairs, two cosy, comfortable sofas and a Smart TV - everything you need to feel at home. Downstairs, the en-suite bedroom has a relaxing ambience, tastefully decorated. Relax and unwind in the king-size bed with a deep mattress dressed in crisp, luxury boutique linen, ensuring a good night’s sleep. Two walk-in wardrobes give plenty of storage and en-suite facilities with bath and shower.

Richmond offers a wide variety of activities; you can simply park the car and enjoy everything on foot. A short stroll takes you to the bustling market square, cobbled streets brimming with independent shops, galleries and tea rooms. You’ll find a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. The famous Norman castle dominates the skyline, with circular walks around the banks of the River Swale passing by The Station, a bustling centre hosting art and craft exhibitions, a three-screen cinema, café, delicatessen, a microbrewery and an ice cream parlour. On the same site, there is an indoor swimming pool and health club.

Richmond sits at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making this the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the sights of Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales. There are plenty of riverside and woodland walks nearby, which continue into the stunning countryside beyond. It is ideal for keen walkers and cyclists alike, with a range of routes and trails nearby for all abilities. The Yorkshire Dales is also an International Dark Skies Reserve, home to some of the darkest skies in the country, where it’s possible to see the Milky Way, planets, meteors and even the Northern Lights.

To enjoy the wider area, visit one of the many pretty Yorkshire towns or villages such as Thirsk, Ripon, Harrogate, Leyburn, Hawes, Reeth or the city of York, all of which are close by. Head north over the border to County Durham to visit Teesdale, the North Pennines and Durham City. There is also the opportunity to watch the horse racing at Catterick, Thirsk, Ripon or York racecourses.
