Great location, but poor service
The location was great near the market, but we waited close to two hours in the sidewalk in order to check in. Sheets were not clean, the sink was broken, door knob fell off in one of the rooms and the spare key almost broke off in the entrance lock (given to us that way)., otherwise a great Location in Rome
Poor communication with the property manager and many red flags.
After finalizing the cost on VRBO, the property manager subsequently changed the price, when confronted the price continued to change, and never matched the sum on the VRBO reservation.
We were requested to bring a large sum of cash for the second payment, our requests to process the second payment through the VRBO payment portal went unanswered. Only when questioned by VRBO directly did the property manager admit they typically only require certain taxes in cash.
Shortly before we were due to arrive an individual texted us and told us to go to a different address than was listed on our reservation. No explanation was given other than saying “the original property is unavailable, it will be fine”. We refused and contacted VRBO and ended up spending the night in a hotel provided by them.
The entire experience left a really bad impression of Italy- we’ve never encountered concerns like these elsewhere in Europe. We were proactive and contacted VRBO early on with concerns about the cash payment, and again when the address changed- one representative was fantastic and clear eyed about the situation, others did little to help and continued to push us to stay at the property despite the concerns and red flags. We ended up staying in a hotel for the remainder of the trip and we were happier for it.
