Dissapointing
When comparing the Prince Rupert to hotels of a similar price point in the area, the standard was well below the alternatives. Whilst the staff were pleasant, the whole hotel felt tired, the bedroom wasn’t even as comfy as a travel lodge, the shower didn’t work (water dribbled out) and the breakfast was no more than average. Whilst I might have raised this with the hotel at check out, the concierge didn’t even acknowledge us at the desk. I eventually put the key down and received a cursory ‘thanks’ as we left. For a similar price there are far better accommodation options on Shrewsbury and I really couldn’t recommend this hotel.

This was a very old property in the centre of Shrewsbury, all beams and quirky features, in a great location.

Wouldn't recommend for solo travellers.
The receptionist was great--very friendly. But I was really annoyed about the room. It was larger than most rooms for solo travellers, but everything else about it was a problem. It struck me as one of those situations where solo travellers are expected to put up with much lower standards. The room was right above a noisy outdoor bar (and there were many other rooms available). There was a smell of stale cigarette smoke. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I had a back ache for two days afterward. The sheets and pillowcases were new, but the duvet/comforter filling smelled and seemed gross and old. There was quite a lot of mold around the windows and in the bathroom. It just seemed forgotten-about in terms of cleanliness. I do hope this hotel succeeds. It looks like there are renovations going on. But my room seemed to have been renovated very recently and then not cleaned/maintained. The managers need to get organized.
