An unpleasant experience for the very high price we paid. Price seems based on assumption of sleeping 10 - we were 4. The house is not worth the money in our opinion which is based on our 2 previous rentals in historic St. Ives.
-Walk from the car to bungalow is 300 meters long and used by many people who don't clean up after their dogs. Path is pitch black at night. Make sure to googlemap it.
- Property is cute at first glance and on website pics, but needs a fresh coat of paint. Heavy wear and tear. Owner's pictures are over-exposed making things look white which are not - ex: kitchen is actually yellow/cream not white.
- The bathrooms have moisture/humidity stains
- The house has an odd odor in the bedrooms. Previous guest (according to the cleaning lady) had tried to cover that odor up with 2 air fresheners. Upon arrival the house smelled like synthetic perfumes which was very unpleasant. Also intensely perfumed fabric softener on the sheets. One can only assume to help cover up the mildewy humid smell in the back bedrooms. Once the air freshener scent started to fade and the owner had provided us with sheets that didn't smell as much like synthetic perfumes, we started to smell the baseline mildew smell. If you open the windows in the bedrooms you get lots of gnats, spiders and even mosquitoes. No insect screens.
- When we arrived we found the previous guests hairs on the floor and in our beds - The mattresses seem to be the lowest end IKEA mattresses available and are in terrible shape. On lower bunk bed one you can feel every spring. The upper mattress has a body impression in it. The linens and pillows are also all of mediocre quality and not professionally laundered.
- The non-stick pans were scratched up beyond the point of safety. The few stainless steel ones had dried up chunks of food on them. - The kitchen counter is tiny and cluttered.
- The 4th bedroom is actually a small open sleep loft above the living room. During our stay the washing machine was kept there as well as the rack to dry clothing. This open loft area is above the living room and is essentially a landing after some steep steps with no door. Not appropriate for kids, or for anyone wishing privacy, and inconvenient if you are planning on using living room, or plan to watch TV, while others sleep up there.
- The actual beach was disappointing. Google Porthkidney Sands and you will find that this beach is listed as unsuitable for swimming due to dangerous currents.
