The small fishing village known as the lobster capital of Baja California has a range of restaurants serving the seafood delicacy, as well as a surf break and plenty of shops.

Stroll around Puerto Nuevo’s waterfront streets and enjoy the relaxed pace of this fishing town. Tucked into a magnificent stretch of Baja California’s Gold Coast, Puerto Nuevo has a wide range of restaurants and hotels, as well as a shopping strip and a surf beach. Sample the village’s famous lobster dishes or enjoy traditional-style Baja California fare.

Puerto Nuevo is split into three small localities. The majority of the village’s shops and restaurants are located in its northern section. Wander around the township’s streets to find over 30 different seafood restaurants serving Baja Californian and traditional Mexican fare. Many of the village’s restaurants serve the local specialty, Puerto Nuevo-style lobster. Treat yourself to a fresh serve of the decadent dish and savor the taste of spicy pico de gallo, rice, beans and pan-fried split lobster with handmade flour tortillas. The largest of the restaurants in the northern section is the ocean-facing Villa Ortegas, but it is believed the tradition began in the cozy Restaurant Puerto Nuevo II.

Save some time to spend wandering around the village’s shops. Pick up local handicrafts, souvenirs, gifts and curios or take a seat on a busy street and people-watch. The waterfront promenade, Paseo del Mar, presents great views of the Pacific Ocean. Look out over the waves crashing on the shoreline or turn toward the mountains that rise steeply toward the east.

Experience an indulgent vacation in Puerto Nuevo when you stay at the resorts located in the center of the village’s narrow waterfront stretch. Book a tour with Baja Diving Adventures to explore the rugged coastline or go on an off-road adventure in the nearby dunes with a motorbike tour. You’ll find the infamous surf break known as Captain Ron’s situated a short distance north of Puerto Nuevo.

Puerto Nuevo is located on Baja California’s northwestern coast. The village is 20-minutes’ drive south of Rosarito Beach and an hours’ drive north from the coastal town of Ensenada. Public buses reach the village from both of these towns, but may be infrequent. Fly into Tijuana International Airport and reach Puerto Nuevo in less than an hour. Experience Puerto Nuevo-style lobster at its source in this cozy village.
