About this property
The Sovereign was originally an old public house and has been lovingly converted into a spacious three-bedroom. two bathroom holiday home with off-street parking - a real bonus in Whitstable!
The house sleeps five guests over three bedrooms and has the bonus of having two bathrooms and a private parking space. There is a separate living room, dining room and kitchen as well as a quaint courtyard to enjoy a morning coffee. Notably, The Sovereign was the last public house of its name in Kent to be converted back to private residential use, becoming two cottages in 2003. Centrally located in the conservation area with just a 2 minute stroll to the town and beach.
You check in using a key box code. I am however local to the area, so if you need anything or have any questions, I am only a phone call away and a short drive!
The end terraced cottage is situated in a quiet residential area, extremely close to Harbour street, with lots of boutique shops and a vast variety of restaurants to suit all tastes. The beachfront and historic working harbour is within walking distance, perfect for a boat trip.
You have access to all areas in the property.
The Sovereign public house, located at Victoria Street, has a long history. It began as a Georgian dwelling house before becoming a beer-house in 1835. The property was named after the British currency unit of the time. The pub later closed and was converted into two dwellings in 2003, with the one in your description being a spacious three-bedroom, two-bathroom fisherman's cottage. The cottage retains some of its historical character, including an original etched public house window. It is situated in the heart of Whitstable's conservation area and is just a short walk from the town's shops.
The ground floor of this historic cottage has been fully renovated. It features a modern, well-equipped kitchen and a large living and dining area. The ground floor also has a convenient rear bathroom with a toilet, basin, and a bath with an overhead shower. From the kitchen, you can step out into a sunny garden, which is perfect for enjoying a quiet morning coffee.
The first floor offers a cosy single bedroom, a light and airy king-size bedroom, and a bathroom with a toilet, basin, and walk-in shower. On the second floor, there is a spacious double bedroom.
This family home offers the convenience of rear parking for 1 small or medium size car.
Please note: There is a slight step as you come out of the 1st floor bathroom and down the stairs. There is also a step up and down leading in and out of the 1st floor double bedroom. The loft room is accessed via a steep original staircase and so we do not recommend for young children or people with mobility issues.
There is off-street parking for 1 small or medium size car at the rear of the property. Please park on the left by the wall as the other space is for the neighbouring property, Victoria Cottage. There is free street parking on the road and surrounding roads. The nearest paid parking is Victoria Street car park. You can view the charges on the Canterbury City Council website. Parking can be limited in the high season but once you have parked up, you are close enough to walk into town, beach, shops etc.
You can also visit the 'Just Park' website to find out where to park in Whitstable.
There are frequent buses running from Whitstable to Herne Bay and Canterbury. You will find bus stops along Harbour Street, High Street, Oxford Street etc.
The trains from Whitstable station will take you to Ramsgate or further afield to London. Whitstable Train Station is about a 10 minute walk to the town centre. Whitstable Taxi services are available for short fares or airport runs.
The nearest airports are in London and the nearest Ferry port is in Dover.
