Beech Hill Hotel & Spa

"We recently stayed here and overall had a fantastic experience. The room was newly refurbished with modern furniture, a large TV, and all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay. The views over Lake Windermere were absolutely stunning and made the trip feel extra special. The food was excellent throughout our stay, with a particularly great breakfast offering plenty of choice and quality ingredients. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. We also made good use of the spa facilities, which were excellent, very clean, and well maintained. There were a few downsides. Due to refurbishment works, guests had to walk through the restaurant in bathrobes to access the spa, which felt a little awkward. The fire alarm also went off at around 11:30pm, causing some disruption. We found the mattress quite firm and not particularly comfortable for our liking. Parking was also challenging, with limited spaces available considering the number of guests, and only one disabled parking space. Despite these issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning, especially for the beautiful location, excellent food, and superb spa facilities."
Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

"If your travelling with kids and want to use the pool be aware of the opening times! Check in is 1600, pool time for kids closes at 1700. Check out is 1100 and kids opening time is 1000. Really poor if you are here for the one night and were planning on using it. Car park is £25 to use however we saw multiple of the local businesses punching in the code and parking their cars. The council car park across from Beatrix Potter was £11 for over night parking. Breakfast has a limit option on the cooked front and the continental was pretty much empty by 0900, toast in a basket is three bits of toast cut up and it came cold. Premier Inn breakfasts and service majorly trumped this. Hotel really does need a revamp and brought up to modern times, i guess the "Old" in the name lets you get away with it. Disappointing stay and value for money only felt on the location point albeit park your car 5 mins walk away."

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa

"Last minute booking. Hotel is nice overlooking the lake with excellent spa. Dinner was excellent. We stayed in room 3 on the ground floor. There was a musty smell walking down the corridor. The room was clean and spacious and overlooked the lake but a bit tired looking. Most of the staff were very friendly but the girl that checked us in was so unhelpful. We had never stayed here before she just gave us the key and some gingerbread and said straight down the corridor room 3 turn left. Gave us no information on the facilities of the hotel. We did not know you could pay a surcharge and use the outdoor spa area. We didn’t know there were 3 restaurants. She just could have sold the hotel and its facilities much more to us and explained options. If I was to stay here again I would look for a room in the newer block of the hotel and book the extra spa service. I did have a treatment in the spa and it was excellent. Overall a nice hotel but the reception staff are your first point of contact they need to be welcoming friendly and informative."
