Explore Worcester’s Culture

Worcester is the capital city of Worcestershire, situated on the banks of the Severn River. At the centre of Worcester is the magnificent cathedral which dominates the town skyline. A truly impressive Norman piece of architecture. The stonework and stained glass windows are beautifully preserved, visit the crypt of King John and delve into the history of the Magna Carta.

Worcestershire has a rich arts and entertainment scene with the local theatre having a varied calendar throughout the year. There are numerous arts and craft centres dotted across the county where you can witness craftsmen and women at work in their local studios. Silk making, pottery and glass blowing can all be observed around here.

There are many museums of various sizes in Worcestershire, including the Bewdley Museum, Tudor House and the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings. However a trip into Kidderminster is well worth the trip to see the Museum of Carpet. The Museum is reflective of the Kidderminster of the past, having been the UK’s carpet centre with up to 30 factories operating at one time. The museum offers great insight into how hand looms operated and industrial carpet making has evolved since then.
