Travel Guide
Admire the award-winning landscaping of Villa Yaiza, enjoy luxury beach living at Playa Blanca or explore vast volcanic plains in this exciting Lanzarote region.

Visit Yaiza for a sense of old Lanzarote, with an emphasis on charming villages, sophisticated resorts and stunning natural scenery. Covering a 52,000-acre (21,000-hectare) stretch of southern Lanzarote, the Yaiza municipality is home to just 15,000 residents. Despite a small population, the region is full of character, intriguing volcanic landscapes and beautiful marinas.

At the municipality's heart is Yaiza Village, the quiet administrative center. This charming township features verdant gardens, colonial buildings and a distinct old-world character that has twice won it the award for Spain's loveliest village.

Architecture here is characterized by white façades offset with greenery, with such notable examples as the 17th-century Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Church. As you explore, look for artisanal souvenir shops or stop for scrumptious tapas.

To the south is Playa Blanca, a stylish resort town. Enjoy the pristine beach, browse designer boutiques at the Marina Rubicon or learn about Lanzarote's pirate history at the 18th-century battlement, Castillo de las Coloradas. The disco-oriented nightlife here is a lively affair.

For an experience in exclusive marina living, head to Puerto Calero. This sophisticated yacht port was created by Jose Calero, who loved life's finer things. Enjoy the marina's luxury accommodation, world-class restaurants and artistic architecture.

See the picturesque volcanic plains of the region at Timanfaya National Park, where you can eat food cooked by volcanic gases. Head to El Golfo and see Lago Verde, a crater lake colored emerald green by algae. Admire Monte Roja as you discover Faro Park, also home to the Pechiguera lighthouse. Enjoy uninterrupted peace at the Papagayo Beaches in southeast Yaiza. Though they require an entry fee, these beaches are unspoiled and among the most picturesque in Lanzarote. Along the drive, look toward Hacha Grande, a striking mountain surrounded by vast, empty plains.

Find Yaiza about a 30-minute drive from Arrecife. Get around the region via a rented car most attractions have ample public parking.
