"This is a really old hotel, fully upgraded and worthy of it's 4 stars. Lush carpets, modern furniture, plenty of space and storahe. We were upgraded to a deluxe room, how posh is that, everything is so comfy, staff will do anything for you, within reason. It is very handy for the local shops and theatre. I will return as this is luxury."

"The propert was lovely, our room was modern and up to date. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and clean! The bathroom was so lovely and clean. I loved that you didnt have to go through the pub to get to the rooms although there was a walkway into the pub at the bottom of the steps if you wished too. Staff were friendly and very helpful. "

"The room was fair, the plug in the bathroom sink didn’t work, the bedside light was a bit dodgy. There were too many stairs for my bad knees, especially carrying a case down."

"We stayed 2 nights. The view of Maldon quay from our room was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We felt the hotel would benefit from an update if possible as access to the upetairs bedrooms is appalling, through part of the kifchen which also disperses kitchen smells upstairs. The stairs are also very steep. Bedroom flooring (old lino) needs replacing as did the bed and headboard. The bathroom has been reburbished and was fine. Our room had air con which we didn't...

"Friendly reception staff, room had all the essentials, bathroom with excellent shower, and great made-to-order breakfast. I only stayed for a night but would happily go back if in that area in the future. The only thing I think they should address is the lack of clarity as to how to get in -- via the Green Room entrance, not the one by the hotel sign (which was locked)."

"It as a beautiful 1400 Grade 1-listed building, which was great, but I had problems with the shower. In my initial room the water was lukewarm at best. I was moved to another where the water was hot but the shower was weak. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was good. They had soya milk for my coffee."
