Location is great. Rooms at the front of property are noisy, traffic and late night passersby. Manager very helpful and friendly. Yes, I would stay there again but would request a Room on the back as I am a light sleeper.

Good option

Nice clean hotel with pleasant staff. Good value for money. Not a big room and pretty warm but they had a small fan: thank goodness!

Nice comfortable hotel an easy walking distance from everything in Colchester. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good quality. I liked the fact that breakfast is 'a la carte', as that reduces wastage. Cleanliness is good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Great place to stay in the centre of Colchester. The staff were really nice and very helpful. English breakfast was cooked to order and was really nice.

They aren't joking about the hill !

Nice period hotel. Lovely staff. My dongle room was absolutely tiny though, on the edge of tolerable for this six foot, 17 stone bloke. Lush breakfast.

Brilliant overnight stay.

Just had a one night stay to take a look round the City, perfect choice of Hotel, ciuld not have picked anywhere better. Just 5 minutes walk into the High street, 10 minutes to Station. Excellent staff, good breakfast and everywhere in the Hotel exceptionally clean would definately recommend.

This is not a place for people who need larger rooms. The hallways are narrow, too. The staff were quite friendly and very helpful. To reach it from the main train station, hire a cab unless you live in an area with steep hills.

Delightful & comfortable town centre hotel

I liked the location; staff were friendly and helpful; breakfasts good and flexible in choice. Comfortable and clean hotel with charming dining area lined with bookcases filled with books. Only had occasional problem accessing WiFi. Really enjoyed my stay.

A comfortable hotel with friendly helpful staff and good food, very good breakfast choice with good service and seemingly cooked to order - not a hot buffet the large hotels favour. Easy access to NCP car park.

Good hotel with small rooms.

Good hotel, although bedroom a little small and it should have been easier to hang up towels in the bathroom. Excellent Sunday dinner and good location. Free parking outside between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. - otherwise fairly expensive in nearby NCP.

Good service and room, convenient for centre

Friendly reception staff, room had all the essentials, bathroom with excellent shower, and great made-to-order breakfast. I only stayed for a night but would happily go back if in that area in the future. The only thing I think they should address is the lack of clarity as to how to get in -- via the Green Room entrance, not the one by the hotel sign (which was locked).

A real gem! Great location with superb restaurant.

I booked this simply for the price and town centre location, but it turned out to be more of a gem than this. Hotel is attached to a classy restaurant which is worth making part of your stay. Rooms were smart, clean and well resourced. The breakfast was superb and in a wonderful environment. A bit of low background noise from the restaurant but ended about 11pm. You need to use public pay car parks, but is about a 15 minutes walk from either of Colchester's train stations.

This is a chic hotel that is well furnished and generates a warm homely atmosphere. The interior is smart and stylish and has a great ambience. The restaurant has a good menu and the food is well prepared even if service takes a while longer than expected. Breakfast and dinner were excellent during our overnight stay. Overall this hotel provides a high standard of service but car parking can be difficult as the hotel doesn't have dedicated parking facilities.

It was more of a slog uphill from the station in distance and the incline than I expected. I had an evening meal in the hotel of the fish platter which was adequate but basic and unimaginative..
