Carvoeiro is a lovely, small, coastal village/resort with easy access to the large beach. It has many good restaurants and caters for those who like having a drink and lunch al fresco. However, in January, and probably the other winter months, it is quite dead at night, especially in the bars.
Michelle's house is furnished to a high standard, with all the facilities anyone could need. The beds are firm but comfortable and the 2 bathrooms are top class. There is a 40" TV and lots of DVD's, as well as a large selection of books. When we arrived (late at night) we were relieved to find the complimentary water, and there was some bread, fruit and other food items which were welcome.
On the minus side, without being pedantic, we couldn't get the Sky News channel, and Channel 4 and the Sky Sports channels were erratic: noise interference, etc,. As they use a cable system we told Reception, who said they would fix it but nothing happened. The staff were polite and very friendly (as were the Portugese in general), but a bit amateurish: the bill was incorrect at the end of our stay. They apologised profusely and, after a fairly long wait, corrected it.
All in all, I would definitely recommend both the apartment and resort.
