enjoyed a two night stay at the hotel in a good location. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Check in was smooth with the friendly receptionist and very helpful. they e-mailed your room details with access to the room using your phone which worked easily. The room was very warm but fans were on hand to help cool the room down. The bed was comfortable and was able to sleep. Breakfast room is on the third floor with great views of the cathedral. std continental breakfast with plenty of choice available.

It was clean but a few things were missing or broken. The key holder to turn the lights on fell off the wall when I checked in. It was loose my whole stay. The "curtain" in the upper window of the bathroom was missing which was just a nuisance as it let light in at night. But the next morning as I was getting ready, I looked up and made eye contact with a man working on the roof of the building across the alley while putting my makeup on. Luckily I was fully clothed, but he was able to see into my whole bathroom. Housekeeping found a curtain to put up but they're fairly transparent. Lastly there is no tea kettle or any source of hot water for your own tea or coffee. As a long-term traveler I can't afford to go out for coffee every day and it was a big negative for me. If would be nice, even in the lobby, to have hot water.

It is a clean spartan hotel very close to Mechelen Cathedral and central square. The hotel is usually unattended, check in is at Hotel Elizabeth nearby. The single bed was narrow and there are no tea and coffee facilities.

This hotel is lovely very welcoming with a tasteful fitout great location right by the Cathedral in Mechelen it’s Centre Aldo there is a fantastic Italian restaurant next door we love it!

Nice staff. Great location but shame about the housekeeping and room. Stayed 5 nights and expected my bed linen to be changed at least once during my stay but unfortunately not. Mattress just on a base and kept sliding off during the night which meant nearly falling out of bed. Large bathroom towels not always given and toiletries a little sparse.

This hotel is very convenient to restaurants, bars, cafes, open late options, easy check in @ 2pm, great breakfast offered on 3rd floor every morning, parking is easily accessible in the garage.

Lovely hotel, great spot
Nice, small, friendly and convenient spot in the middle of a beautiful city. The Italian restaurant next door (L'Artista) is well worth a visit too.

Lovely hotel in a great location.
I've been to the hotel three times now on business and had a great stay every time. The location is fantastic, close to the stunning medieval square and a number of times my room has had a great view of the cathedral (though you can hear the bell, so if you are super-sensitive to noise maybe this is not the hotel for you). It's clean, well run with friendly service and the breakfast is good. The pizzeria next door (I'Artista) is very nice and there are lots of nice bars a short walk away.

the hotel is in a great location, close to everything. The only negative thing is that it doesn't have AC and they don't provided a fan, which is not good because your force to open the window and it gets really loud when people area walking outside late at night and early in the morning. Other then that it was a great hotel, really clean and the staff was nice.

good location
I found the noise in the hotel quite bad both within the hotel and noise from outside. The sound proofing is almost non existent so dont stay here if you want a good nights sleep. The room itself was very small, but comfortable enough. Also there was no hot water on the last morning which wasnt acceptable.

A well-modernised central venue, just a few yards from main square, but tucked down side street. In-house restaurant looked buzzy, but didn't try. good long breakfast hours! Charming staff.

Nice place for a short biz trip
Very good town centre location, close to restaurants and bars. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice Italian restaurant at the hotel as a dinner option. The buffet breakfast needs significant improvement with some fresh and hot food options. Heating in my room was a bit of a problem. Bath toiletries could also have been better. Overall a very positive experience at the hotel. Will stay again.

get what you pay for -
The room I had was the largest i think looking at the fire plan layout, but nice sized. usual twin bed double bed set up. Desk and twin bed and warrobe and en suite. The shower was good, wooden floor, usually a dust magnet was clean. The mirror was broken where the door had opened into it although for me not a deal breaker. staff very polite and i felt safe. Nice hotel in a great location in the centre.

Excellent centrally located hotel
Rooms are well kept and clean. Situated adjacent to the cathedral while convenient for all local amenities beware of the bell ringing throughout the night. Also can be noisy if the room is facing onto the narrow street. Very enjoyable stay overall.

Hotel Paardekens - 2 night stay.
Stayed for 2 nights in July in a single room (no breakfast). The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modern and well equipped. The location is excellent for the market place and St Rumbold's cathedral. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Great Location, small single rooms
Great location situated between the City's magnificent Catherdral and the vibrant bar restaurant area of the Viskmart. You will have to park your car in the Central underground car parks which are safe and reasonably cheap to use. Staff are pleasant enough. Rooms are quite small especially the singles. Be careful if you get a choice of room......try getting a room that isn't 01-04....they are close to the lift and fire exit door which are used regularly and can be a bit noisy in the morning. Wifi is pretty good, breakfast is basic to average but will do the job.....and starts at 07:00hrs weekdays.

Stayed here for three nights in May 2014. Room was adequate size for one person and ensuite bathroom was finished to high standard. Room was clean and serviced daily. Ideally located right in the centre of town only 15 minute walk to the main train station. Staff on reception were helpful and polite.

Enjoyed my stay at 3 Paardekens, even more after conferring with colleague who stayed at different hotel in town. Thought three outlets was few, but better than only one! His room was cold, mine had very good heater. Not a fan of calling two twin beds pushed together a "double", but not a big deal for me. More of a view than expected, from upper floor of "back side" of hotel. Saw rooftops and bit of a courtyard of sorts. Had asked for street side, but wasn't given it. Front desk clerk instent that back side better because it was quieter, even though I insisted it wasn't important to me (!). Front desk clerks varied -- some very friendly, others quite curt. Breakfasts very good, but hours too short. Overall, a very nice stay, comfy bed/bedding, small but sufficient, great location.

My room was small with barely enough space to "swing a cat"... Double bed, tiny night tables, a chair and something against the wall (a ledge) to place my wallet and a glass of water below the hanging LCD TV... no desk to do late night work. Internet access is via Ethernet cable via the IP phone handset on one of the tiny night stands, which means working has to be done sitting on the bed (to be near an AC socket too). Although the room was small, it was clean, modern and comfortable. Bathroom was nice size, clean, modern and comfortable. The customer service is very good. I had to stay an additional day, and they were able to accommodate my "same day" laundry needs as an exception... bringing it to my room in the morning before I checked out to wear that day. This may be a normal service in larger hotels in bigger cities, but in Mechelen... it's the exception, not the rule. It was nice of them to accommodate me.

The hotel has just been renovated and in somethings it shows. The rooms are basic there is no fridge safe or mini bar but it is a 3 start hotel. Breakfast is on the third floor of hotel and you have a view of the cathederal. Breakfast is continental(toast cerial juices coffee) The location is fantastic although you have to walk down a laneway to enter the hotel. As you walk out door turn right walk up laneway and you are next to cathederal and main square. The cathederal is well worth a visit. Tip There is no 24 hour reception at the hotel if already booked in you will have to use key pad to enter code which is on you room card as soon as you do this push the door. You then place room key into slot next to door this opens sliding door.. If arriving late press button on key pad this will get you the night person. Overall our stay at the hotel was very good and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in Mechelen. There are also 3 chocolate shops near the hotel. Would also recommend a cafe called the Carlton which is just up the road from hotel. Also try the local beer Carlous very nice

The only plus point for the hotel is its location. We arrived late about 11:30 pm and found the hotel locked and in darkness, i had to use the intercom and was told to wait 5 minutes, this was during a thunderstorm and there was no cover. Eventually someone arrived to let me in. We were not shown to our room and were given an electronic card which I was told would open the room and switch on the lights. I got into the room ok but it took about half an hour to work out how to get the lights working. we were both drenched cold and fed up. There were only 2 towels in the room 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel. The room was very small (no room to swing a cat if you are that way inclined) A continental breakfast cost 10 euros each (don't bother it was nothing special) When i complained to the receptionist about the lack of towels I was told it was only a one person room, why then did it have 2 beds crammed into it. This is one of the very worst experiences we have had in a hotel anywhere in the world, how the place gets 3 stars is beyond me.

Not too small, not too big, not too corporate and not too homely.... Just Right! We booked 3 Paardekens on the recommendation of a colleague and were very impressed. The reception greeted us with keycards and paperwork already done and gave us all a map of Mechelen town centre. The rooms were clean and well maintained, if I had a moan it would be that the bathrooms were a tad small. The breakfast facilities on the third floor were excellent, with a wide choice of continental options, great light and an excellent view of the cathedral. All the staff were all unendingly helpful and efficient - even to the point where one of the staff walked us to the nearest Italian restaurant when our Dutch/his English were not up to the directions.

Good Hotel but disappointing service
Booked this hotel for 2 engineers working away, the guys arrived late at night and had a twin room booked, it had a double bed in it and not a twin, the receptionist couldn't understand a word of English so the guys ended up sharing a double bed which was extremely disappointing.
