Perfect stay
Best hotel I stay in. Rooms are super comfy. Staff very friendly and warming. The food is also incredible.

My shower did not work, it was scorching hot I mentioned this to the lady working and they could not fix the issue. They know the issue is ongoing as they left a a4 sign piece of paper in room mentioning not to fiddle with shower as its tempermental.

Room was big and comfortable beds. Great facilities and plenty of towels etc. Food was very nice in the bar/restaurant and very welcoming from staff. Would recommend!

Pleasant overnight stay
Pleasant overall stay. Room had all the usual facilities one would expect, all in working order. Restaurant serves the usual pub fayre for a reasonable price & to a fair standard. Bed was quiet hard, as were the pillows, but this is only a personal preference. Breakfast was of a good choice & variety, although a bit pricey at £10 per head. It should be noted that access to the bedrooms was by staircase only, so would be not vaiable for everybody. Overall a good overnight stay.

Excellent hotel
Lovely room. No stone had been left unturned re items provided in the rooms including cotton wool, ear sticks, eye and ear pads, robes even! Also breakfast was excellent. I need a feather pillow but maybe there were some of I'd asked!

A very warm and welcoming Hotel, one very minor thing, i cant stand very hot showers and could not cool mine down, as i say very minor so minor i did ask for it to be adjusted. Would definitely stay again.

Had a really lovely night's stay. The bed was really comfy, the room was clean and well equipped, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good pub food with massive portions and very reasonable. Breakfast was delicious. The hotel is peaceful and in a lovely setting right opposite a beautiful old church.

Saxon inn the place to be.
It was a lovely family night away the saxon inn is very clean the food is lovely you get a lot of food on the plate want you orderd ,staff are so friendly and helpful over all the saxon inn is nice cosy little place to stay. And also it is a nice little village as well.

Clean, Comfortable, & Quiet Stay at the Saxon Inn
Lovely little inn on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland. We knew that we were going to be arriving well past their check-in hours so I called ahead to explain (we were coming up on business). The process for getting in was clearly explained. When we arrived, cheerful gentleman (despite the hour) came to greet us, give us our room key and let us in. We stayed in Room 5, which was in great condition and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfortable with crisp linen and there were plush, soft towels in the bathroom. It had a large, waterfall shower which was powerful and had plenty of hot water. There was a tea/coffee tray (along with biscuits) and a kettle as well as a hairdryer in the room. What really impressed us was the work of a local artist on display in our room and throughout the hallways. There was a small plaque near the entrance which gave details of the artist, with her work prominently featured around the property. This gave it a warm, personal touch, as opposed to the endless museum prints that you normally see in properties of this size. Should our travels bring us back in this direction, we would not hesitate to return.

The property greatly exceeded my expectations. Very nice room with all amenities (coffee, tea, biscuits, shampoo, hairdryer etc). Comfortable bed, nice shower, new fixtures and decor.

Grand stay at the Saxon.
When we arrived we were a little disappointed that there was no tv signal, having forgotten that the transmitter had burnt down! So not their fault. We watched by using the computer! Couldn't fault anything, very quiet location, great food at a reasonable price, staff great.

Great place
A lovely pub with rooms in a quite village. Everywhere was spotless and fresh. The bedrooms were spacious and had a lovely bed. I didnt book breakfast as had an early start but had a nice evening meal in their restaurant. I will certainly book again in the future when in the area.

The overall impression was ok but superficial, the cleaning practices left a lot to be desired. A dirty rag (the best I can describe the dishcloth used) was used from table top to tabletop without rinsing, chairs had last nights crumbs on them, carpets unhoovered or badly done.

So helpful and accommodating.
From the warm and accommodating greeting from the moment i arrived, til i left. Nothing was too much trouble. I dont sleep well after a long drive, and nothing was too much trouble. Even a later breakfast. My room was very comfy with an assortment of tea, coffee, hot chocolate to drink and assorted cookies to eat. Their full English breakfast kept me going all day. I'll go back for sure. All in all. A great stay. Thank you.

Lovely old inn everywhere very clean, gone out of their way to ensure everything was in your room to make your stay perfect even down to set at side of bed eye mask and eye plugs. Nothing too much. Would certainly come back

friendly comfortable Inn
This Inn is quite historic I think but is now adjacent to a modern housing estate. A short walk from a lovely rural area alongside the river. The hotel is clean, comfortable and friendly. Tasty evening meal from an unpretentious menu with plenty of choice. Nice brekkie too. Definitely recommend.

Really thin walls so that the next room's occupants having a conversation sounded like they were sat right next to me. Bobbly duvet cover and pillowcases need replacing really. Bathroom constantly smelt of the kitchen which i think was directly below. the downstairs is extremely tired but the rooms have been more recently updated which was a relief as when i walked in the front door my heart dropped a bit! not enough room in the carpark for more than 4 cars (and all depends on how others park as to whether you can fit too!). overall very disappointed considering i booked judging by other reviews, just because my usual B&B in the area was full. I wouldnt stay here again i'm afraid!

I was upset to here that your stay with us was not as you hoped, I believe you stayed in room 9 which our deluxe double spacious and comfortable. I have checked the bathroom a couple of times a day since recieving your post and i havnt noticed any smell as room 9 is not above the kitchen, all our bed linen is all new as we only opened in April, but we do plan an upgrade of our linen in the new year, We also plan a full refurb of our public areas and to extend our car park to ajacent land in the next couple of months. Once again sorry you were not happy but hope you will give us a try when we have completed our upgrades in April.

Great place.
Little jewel in a delightful village. Staff exceedingly helpful, food amazing, room clean and comfortable. Lots to see within easy driving distances. Would certainly recommend and return.
