"The hotel is an old Georgian building and therefore reflected in the rooms and amenities. Lots of character and charm. However, this means no aircon and old fashioned door locks etc. They provide a fan but our room was still too warm. We stayed in April so the summer months could be tricky. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room was well stocked. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and lovely fluffy towels. Lots of tea and coffee. Coffee was high quality bags and not the nasty Nescafé granules you usually get. Lovely biscuits too. For breakfast I had a chocolate croissant which was great followed by a full English. Unfortunately this was a bit disappointing. Sausage tasted cheap and the bacon was streaky and not back which was quite tough. No black pudding and only one hash brown. Toast was described as whole meal but was just plain brown. We had lunch sat outside in the sun which was very nice. I can recommend the fish finger sandwich. Beer is excellent and the staff were super helpful and working incredibly hard."

"The room needed a deep clean - this is an old property so it’s always going to be a challenge to keep things looking at their best, but there were areas that looked as if they hadn’t been touched in months (towel rail, tiles, pictures etc). The staff at check in were great, but I was a bit concerned (as a woman travelling on my own) that a side door at the bottom of the stairs would always be kept open, but after they all gone home, everywhere else is locked. I got the impression that there were no staff in the pub overnight. Dinner was a reasonable price (2 courses for £20) but the burger bun had been microwaved so was inedible. Breakfast was absolutely delicious though - I had eggs royale with lovely smoked salmon and perfectly poached eggs. All in all, an OK stay with a great breakfast."

"We checked into this space ABOVE a working hair salon after hours. The "secret" room is on the very top floor up a few flights of very narrow stairs. But when you (and your luggage) get up there, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The owner has thought of all the little things you might need. The bathroom is modern, the bed extremely comfortable. Our host was very responsive, helpful and kind. We really enjoyed wandering the streets of this small town and had a lovely meal at the hotel! Don't hesitate to reach out and stay at The Secret. Free parking was a bonus!"

"A cute property. A lot smaller than we imagined it would be but okay for two people for a couple of nights. A couple of things could’ve been improved - the freezer section in the fridge was completely iced up which made it tricky to put our frozen supplies in and the bottom tray on fridge door was missing so milk had to lay on top of food. The inside edges of the shower cubicle were a bit mucky! The back door was difficult to shut and the tv remote didn’t work. All minor inconveniences though that didn’t detract from the stay. Communication with the hosts was very good via WhatsApp. On the whole, I’d recommend the property if you want to stay somewhere ‘a bit different’. "
