Just 3 miles from the sea at West Bay, this superb property boasts its own indoor heated swimming pool, a garden with patio, and en-suite facilities to all bedrooms. Sympathetically converted from a former barn, it has been very well equipped to offer comfortable holiday accommodation for up to six people. This is an ideal base for exploring both Dorset’s lovely coastline and beautiful countryside.
Ancient Bridport, 2 miles, has Saxon origins and was once an important rope-making centre. The amount of space needed to make rope is said to account for the town’s exceptionally broad streets, now the base for two popular weekly markets. There is a good choice of shops, a cinema and a new sports centre. A mile further on, West Bay has a harbour where fishing trips and rowing boat hire are available. The stunning Chesil Beach runs from here and stretches 17 miles along the coast to Weymouth. There are several other good beaches within easy reach of The Old Piggeries – at Charmouth, Seatown and, slightly further, at the charming and popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis, which offers plenty of attractions for visitors.
Walkers can enjoy meandering country footpaths passing through tranquil countryside, or more energetic hikes on the coastal path along the tops of towering cliffs, where the views are breathtaking. There are plenty of good country inns to offer refreshment. Inland, there are many picturesque villages to explore, with their pretty thatched roofs and interesting histories. Near the little town of Chard is Hornsbury Mill with its rural life displays, and beautiful Forde Abbey and gardens. Nearby is Crewkerne, an old-fashioned market town, with many bookshops and second-hand shops to explore. Dorchester is 7 miles. Golf and fishing nearby. Riding school 5 miles. Shops 2 miles.

The Piggeries is a comfortable well equiped home.
The Piggeries is a comfortable well equiped home. All the rooms are a generous size and 3 en-suites is a welcome bonus. The kitchen is particularly well equiped. The pool is great, very warm in a clean room and very safe with wide steps in the shallow end. There are large grounds but some play kit would be welcome. The location is great - with a bridleway immediately behind - in a very quiet lane serving just 3 properties. The main road is perhaps a mile away and can not be heard or seen. With little light pollution the night sky is good.
The hosts were very attentive - replaced the DVD player within 12 hrs of us reporting it -and preparation was excellent. A down side (?) - the coin in the slot electricity meter is perhaps set on a high tarriff and irritating to have to manage it - we would rather have paid another £20 and not be bothered with it.
All considered a great holiday home in a good location, with helpful hosts.

We had a wonderful stay at The Old Piggeries, just after UK overnight stays became possible post-lockdown.
The cottage is lovely - spacious and nicely laid out around a courtyard. The kitchen in particular is really well equipped.
The pool was the best feature - nice size, well heated and clean.
The one thing that could be improved is communication - there wasn't much info beforehand and there wasn't any kind of guide to the facilities and local area which would be nice to have.
But most importantly, the information just says there is a 'fuel and power supplement' but no info on how to pay - it should tell you there is an electricity meter that needs to be topped up with pound coins (we spent at least £50). This is pretty inconvenient and for the price and the quality of the accommodation, this really should be updated.
Overall, it is a lovely place to stay and I would recommend it - very quiet location near to lots of great beaches, brilliant swimming pool and good facilities.

The house was in a very private location.
The house was in a very private location. It was clean and reasonably well equipped. Wish I'd taken my own kitchen knife.
Double bed was extremely firm.
The electric meter was annoying. Firstly having to find £1 coins to feed it with but also it's so high up I had to get a chair to stand on in order to see how much was left on it. I'm 5'8.
Local pub was good, if you want to eat, suggest you call ahead and book.

This is a lovely place for a family stay.
This is a lovely place for a family stay. Lovely pool and close to main routes to lots of destinations. Downside is WiFi poor at times (needed with children) and the £1 for the electric.
