"Lovely old pub/hotel all low beams and polished wooden floors. The staff are very helpful and pleasant and tge bar prices are reasonable. We had room 7 a twin room. The decor was delightful. If you are tall, watch out for the low beams. The shower room was very modern and spotlessly clean. However if like me you suffer with bad knees and are only small in stature the 3 short flights of stairs are difficult, some of the steps are very deep and the beautiful handrail is hard to grip. It could get a little noisy as the windows are single glazed (only to be expected. After reading the reviews I was a little disappointed with the food. We both ordered the fish and chips and at £20+ I would have expected cod not the brown fish we were served. On the plus side the, we had some lovely good quality sausage for breakfast. We were going to the Storyhouse Theatre which is very conveniently just around the corner. I would stay again if I was coming to Chester."

"Beautiful Victorian building building close to Chester station, literally 1 minute walk from station entry/exit. Easy walk along the canal into the historic city centre. Staff helpful and friendly."
