Refurbishment needed.
We have stayed on several occasions at the Dumfries Arms over several years and do feel it is due a refurbishment. The paintwork should be lighter also.
The staff was welcoming, the room very clean and quiet and the car park very convenient.
We had a good dinner very reasonably priced. .
Breakfast was ok.
A good place to stay on our way to visit Scotland.
We had a very pleasant stay here it clean and staff were very cheerful helpful we couldnt have asked for anything better we would definitely recommend this hotel.
Warm welcome and all the staff were pleasant and helpful. Food in restaurant for dinner was excellent as was the presentation. Apart from squeaky floorboards in bedroom happy with our choice.
The hotel was overall well presented with plenty of free parking.
It was disappointing that our room was not made-up during our 2-day stay, the WiFi did not work, the TV remote was not functioning, the extractor fan did not work and there was no lift to the top floor.
Food was absolutely delicious we had scallops to start cajun chicken with rice and fish and chips then to finish chocolate fudge cake and chocolate brownie sundae. Staff professional and friendly. Altogether a great stay and will definitely stay again.
We had a very good stay at the Dumfries Arms Hotel Cumnock the hotel was spotlessly clean staff were excellent rooms were nice and cosy and very clean breakfast was excellent you can have a full Scottish and also a buffet style breakfast plenty of choice would use this hotel again

Pleasant enough stay
Pleased in general with our stay. Dinner in the restaurant was very good and there was a sufficient choice at breakfast. Deluxe room was looking a bit tired, the sink in the bathroom was chipped and the mattresses were uncomfortable with the springs obviously on the surface. There were only two hangars in the wardrobe.
The staff were fantastic attentive polite very helpful nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms, I say rooms because we had three! The first room was fine some of the furniture had some dinks and marks but it was clean. The sink tap in the bathroom wasn’t fixed securely so spun around when you turned it on or off.There was also yellow water staining on the ceiling. But more about that later.
We ate in the restaurant food was fabulous staff were fantastic we drank in the bar very reasonably price very comfortable.
We went to our room and found that there had been a significant leak from one of the rooms above us water was dripping from the lampshade and was all over the dressing table it had soaked the wife’s fascinator she was wearing the next day and her make up.
I saw the night porter and she moved us to another room without hesitation. However she told the wife the room was booked the following night as it was a family room.
My wife worried all night that there would be no rooms on the Saturday and there no other nice alternatives locally.
The next morning the staff once again demonstrated why I’d go back they found us another room which was perfect, they also told us by way of an apology they would not charge us for the first night.
We had a great weekend all be it an eventful one.

Booking for two twins had been magically translated into two doubles despite this having been the key criteria for selecting rooms. Receptionist sorted it out, gave us new rooms and came up and helped us remake beds - very good. Supper was not so good long delays resulted us being served molten ice cream. When paying bar staffed everything ok? I replied - not really because you hd clearly prepared puddings and not served us as the ice cream was molten by the time you bought it to us. This was just shrugged off with the remark “well we were very busy”. Pretty poor reaction to feedback they had solicited.
