"The room was comfortable and quiet. Staff were welcoming and the breakfast was great. We ate at the pub on a couple of evenings. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend. "

10/10 Excellent
"Always a pleasure to return to this hotel. Friendly staff and lovely rooms. Each one seems to be different but comfortable. The hotel layout is a bit quirky but all part of the charm"
"Stayed in the Wolsey apartment at the rear of the building. Instructions sent didn't state this and we were left wandering up and down the three floors of the main building looking for the apartment. In the end we had to call customer service for the correct location.
The apartment was nice, clean and in a good location.
However, the 5 spaces for parking were right outside the front door of the apartment. Although it stated free parking it was roulette trying to get a space. I don't know if it was other residents or chancers using it. We ended up having to pay for parking due to this.
The apartment had a dish washer but no tablets, there was no washing up liquid and no tea spoons.
The TV only gave BBC channels with a good reception. All other channels the sound was broken and picture pixilated. Also the TV wouldn't connect to the WiFi to enable apps like Iplayer and netflix to be used. Called customer services they said it would be fixed in the morning. Admittedly the following night the channels were better but not perfect and still the TV wouldn't hook up to the WiFi so still no apps.
The following evening when we got back we we back to square one, only a good reception on BBC channels.
The other annoying feature was the unused University teaching block next to the property car park must have some issue with its alarm. It went off 5 times during our stay including late at night for approx 20 minutes.
All in all would we return? Unfortunately not to this proper"
"Great stay, very nicely upgraded rooms and we had such a peaceful sleep. Room was so spacious. Right in the center 10 minutes walk from bars and restaurants "
"The cleanliness of this apartment was substandard, dirty bedlinen which was stained and had other people’s hair on it. Very smelly unclean drains in the bathroom which kept us awake at night it was so bad. We had to clean the plug in the bathroom sink as it was full of black mould which washed into sink every time you put plug in. The carpets and sofa were dirty with stains, presumably from other peoples dogs? We couldn’t use the sofa it was so bad, no throw to cover it. Spider webs covered the light fittings. The apartment needs a thorough deep clean.
The wine, chocolates, milk and orange juice were a nice touch but we would have preferred the apartment to be clean and no gifts. Very disappointing."
"This was our second stay at 40 winks and it was even better! Warn welcome, beautiful decor, delicious breakfast. Host went out of his way to make our visit run smoothly as we were here for a graduation ceremony. We will be back. Didn’t have time to use the new bar so we must return!! "
"Location was excellent and parking was good
The apartment was clean but it didn’t smell very nice. I think it was the shower drain.
Although an apartment for 4 people it only had 3 mugs and one of those was badly chipped and shouldn’t be used. There were only 2 small water glasses .Each bed only had one bedside lamp.
Overall it was not comfortable and I expected better"
