Beautiful rural location
We had a wonderful family stay and everything we needed in the kitchen was included in the well-appointed, warm home. The views from the breakfast table are breath-taking!

Peaceful farmhouse
Our family of two adults and two children loved our stay at Shepherds Rest. The mountain views are beautiful, the beds were cozy and we had everything we needed from kitchen supplies to puzzles and toys. It was a perfect base for taking the Jacobite train!

Scotland for 2 weeks
Driving threw the tunnel was a hoot and a bit scary the first time. It was well located to the canal, the train, and the mountain. We enjoyed our stay. What would have helped: explanation on the heating system, maybe a book on what is around to see, and the games didn't have directions and were in a box that was different than the board. The fireplace was lovely but didn't know where to get wood.

An beautiful property, amazing location and fantastic hosts! Stunning walks straight from the door. We had an amazing week, the dogs were permanently tired with all the walks and swimming. We loved Ilona and the pooches. The house was great. The tunnel could be one of the scariest 5 minutes of our lives. The location is a wee bit off the beaten path, but everything else was terrific.

Off the beaten path; looking at Ben Nevis.
This property was perfect for our family of 5. (All 3 kids are now young adults). Clean; quiet; having a one bathroom for us and a second bathroom for the kids is very helpful. The eating area looks right at Ben Nevis. Check-in was simple; and the owner/host was very helpful and easy to deal with. The home is probably 4-5 miles from the commercial center of Fort William, so you likely need a car to stay here (which we had) or be willing to taxi. I certainly would recommend it.

The best to date!
Shepherds rest was perfect. The location was fantastic, rural and quiet and had lovely walks from the house for the dogs. Ilona was the perfect host, always chatty and helpful and we loved our doggy friends. Stunning house, beautiful views, great location and lovely host!

Fantastic Stay with breathtaking views
Location of the property was amazing with breathtaking views of Ben Nevis. Walking the dog in the morning you often felt like you were the only one around for miles. Property was very spacious and clean. Hosts were welcoming and very knowledgable of the surrounding area. The river beach nearby was fantastic and our dog loved swimming in the river. ideal location to really get away from normal busy life

Comfortable and clean accommodations in the highlands
Picked as an overnight stay coming from Fort Augustus. Not a lot of time to check out all the area. Residence is just like in the pictures and super comfortable. Only knock is ii is not easy to get to and forced to go thru single lane 20m tight tunnel.

Fabulous visit!
We had a great week at Shepherd's rest. The house is spacious, beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything you could need. We had great views of Ben Nevis from the dining table most of the week. There were great walks to Banquo's Walk and along the river to skip stones and see the beautiful scenery. My teens were charmed by the horses, dogs, chickens and luckily a darling lamb. The house is outside of town and has a daunting tunnel to pass through but it was easier than I thought it would be to get there and nice to be out of the hustle bustle of town. We would certainly stay again if we are heading to the Highlands.

Lovely spacious cottage in a beautiful location
Brilliant stay at the cottage, very spacious and plenty of room for 4 adults and a baby! Long bumpy road to the cottage with a tunnel but was easy enough to drive along (just hope you don’t meet someone coming the other way 🤣). Great base for exploring Fort William, Glen Coe and the surrounding areas.

Nevertheless a fantastic place to spend a week. A lovely property in a great place with much to do. The three black Labradors being an added bonus. We hope to return. Highly recommended

Very quiet and relaxing
The house was as expected from the photos. Very comfortable (beds particularly) and very peaceful. We loved the quietness. There were 6 adults in our party and we found it spacious. The views to Ben Nevis were good. The kitchen had all necessary implements for self catering. Bathrooms and showers were good. The drive in was on unpaved road which was uneven but we got used to it.

A lovely house in a perfect location
We had a great week at Shepherds Rest. The house is lovely; modern, spacious, well equipped and very clean. It’s in a perfect location, very tranquil with great views and leisurely walks in the surrounding woodland and along the nearby canal. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to others.

A wonderful week at the Shepherds Rest

Stunning location and beautiful property, we were a family of 4 and a dog but has plenty of room for 6. Very comfortable and clean, and you could not ask more from a location, great views, varied walks right from the doorstep or be adventurous in the moutains. Will go back!

Everything you need is at Shephard's Rest - friendly and accomodating hosts, baby lambs (in 2020), lovely walks outside the door, an adventerous drive getting there. We will be back to Torcastle soon. :-)

Great get away location!
We truly enjoyed our stay at the cottage outside Fort William. Everything was just as described and we were able to make a great breakfast with fresh eggs from the farm. Our daughter enjoyed the animals tremendously, especially the two dogs meandering the property. What sweethearts. Thank you for your hospitality!

Charming cottage in perfect location
Loved the location, being walking distance with direct access to the Caledonian Canal - perfect if you have a dog! We had eggs, butter, milk, tea and coffee upon our arrival. The owners were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Their dogs are also very friendly and cuddly and we loved their visits to the house!

Absolutely fantastic place to stay, close enough to everything yet far enough for a peaceful and tranquil get away. House had everything we needed, very comfortable and homely. We would highly recommend this property and would stay again. Only thing I would say is the mattress in the main bedroom upstairs could be bigger to cover the base of the bed, kept banging my legs against the base of the bed when getting out of bed, but this is a very minor issue. Totally awesome place. Thank you Ilona!!

Cosy shelter with Ben Nevis in view
The house is functional, yet also decorated with care and detail. You find everything you need there and if not, you can ask Ilona. She is a wonderful person, always in a good mood and with a smile on her face. She is around, but you do not feel guarded or watched. You can make wonderful trips starting from Fort William - a trip to Mull is worth doing. All in all, we would definitely come back. Thanks again for everything, Ilona!

Perfectly located 5 minutes from Fort William with clear views across to Ben Nevis. The house was well appointed with everything you need when away including more than enough firewood and a welcome batch of eggs and milk which was very thoughtful, and the gym/pool/spa membership (at the Strathmore Ben Nevis hotel) was a very nice bonus. The property lies at the end of a short single track though a tunnel under the Caledonian canal, exactly as stated in the advert which caused no problems during our week
