"If youʻre traveling on a budget and still would like to experience the island vibe, I think Reedʻs Bay Hotel is the place for you. Being that Hilo does NOT have very many hotel options, they are either very pricey or affordable with very few in between, Reedʻs Bay Hotel has gained our hearts with our last stay. The view from our window was gorgeous overlooking the water on one side, the pool was clean and inviting, the staff was helpful and friendly and the location was absolutely convenient. Our only gripes were 1, there is no elevator so we had to walk up three flights of stairs, (but then again so do the workers who clean the rooms daily), and there is no AC which made it hard on my menopausing body, lol. On our visit the weather was gorgeous which made our room very hot. Fans were provided and so were blackout curtains but it was still hot. However, would we stay there again? Absolutely!!"

This is the place!If you are looking for serenity...you will find it here.If you have an electric car, they have a lot of solar and we chose to spend time in town to charge so we didnt drain the system because we are in hurricane season.. Ocean View Mountain Home by Akaka Falls.

"The whole experience was awesome. Some major points:1. The view is awesome. House is on 3 acres and you have a view of the ocean. You can watch cruise ships go by. No other neighbors to contend with. Peaceful. Sound of a running stream. Lots of Hawaiian forest surrounds the other sides.2. The house is exceptional. Two 360 degree decks that surround the house (upper and lower). Great shade and a constant breeze of clean air. Many outdoor chairs and lounges to recline on. Wonderful place to read a book. I did not watch TV for 2 weeks (but there is one).3. Upstairs is a large living room and a well equipped kitchen. Lots of windows to open and let the breeze come in. The house is about 1500 feet above sea level so the temperature is almost always perfect - probably about 6-8 degrees cooler than Hilo.. There is also 1 bedroom and a bath.4. On the occasional clear night the sky is magnificent. No nearby lights to detract from it.5. Downstairs the 2 bedrooms and 2 baths are large and comfortable. Again, lots of windows to let the breeze in.6. I want to live here. Planning on coming back."

"Flies in the barn was an extreme nuisance. Uncut grass from cabin 5 to the barn was annoying. The falls was a amazing. However, be extremely careful if you take the short hike because the uneven rocks is a challenge especially if it rain (9 out 10 times it'll rain). Despite that, Jordan, Abby, & Cady (not in order) was top of line from hospitality, interaction, professionalism, tidiness, etc. & they wasn't ugly :-)"

Home looking over Hilo and ocean

"Jason was an incredible host. We stayed for about six weeks as we looked for and purchased a new home. He was so flexible and accommodating. We had three pets with us (who absolutely loved the place) and he even greeted them with welcome biscuits. A hurricane came through during our stay and he was very prompt to make sure we were comfortable during the high winds and rain. The house is better than described. The views were amazing. Sunset. Sunrise. Kīlauea erupting. We even had a hawk come visit during our stay. I cannot say enough positive comments about Jason and his home."
