Stunning views. Wonderfully equipped
It would have been perfect, if the door had been open when we arrived. We were told that it would be open with the key on the inside of the door. It wasnt and after a 7 hour drive arriving at 9.30pm. Communiction with the host is lacking.

Gorgeous, spacious house, with beautiful views, in a great location!
This was the first time that the place we'd booked turned out to be even more beautiful and spacious than it appeared in the photos! A 10 minute walk from a gorgeous beach, mobile grocery delivery, a lovely coffee shop down the road, a sustainable local stall in the other direction, just steps from the cottage, with a view of a beautiful mountain and bay from the living room and kitchen. This house has just about every amenity and extra you could want. Thank you for a brilliant stay, and we look forward to coming back in the future.

Beautiful Relaxation
As somebody who has been visiting Harrs for 50 years but finding prices in the places we know so well rising beyond our means for every visit, this was perfect. Lovely house with loads of space for 4 adults, large living room, large well equipped kitchen and that amazing view from the dining room and living room. Less famous than Luskentyre and Seilebost, Northton is a great place to stay with amazing views, four deserted beaches in easy reach as well as wildlife (we saw otters, golden eagles and porpoises) and the Temple Cafe is a lovely wee daytime local overlooking the salt marsh, serving the best coffee ever and will also do you a wee Harris G&T. Highly recommended place to stay.

Great property in south Harris

We love the village of Northton from a previous visit so knew the location would be perfect for us - easy reach of beautiful beaches and a great base from which to explore the island. The house had everything we needed and was warm and cosy even on the blustery and wet days! Thank you!

Well appointed bungalow with great views & superb location in Northton close to the beaches
Taransay cottage is a delight , both the lounge and kitchen diner have great views of the mountains & estuary , the kitchen is large & well appointed & both bedrooms are a good size . The location in Northton gives access to great walks to the Northton beaches , temple & Ceapabhal hill. In the village there is also the excellent Temple cafe , Croft 32 for honesty box food & the Seallam centre with a superb St Kilda exhibition.

Taransay Cottage, Northton, Harris
This property was exceptionally well equipped and welcoming. The location was good and had some great walks and beaches nearby, a cafe down the road, and small shed selling freshly-made, ready-made meals and cakes up the road. A corncrake was calling in next doors meadow for most of our stay.

The property was great well equipped and comfortable. The view out the front windows was ever changing. A great location, a lovely walk down the road takes you to a fabulous beach. We will certainly return. Coffee shop on the road for a stop on the way back.

Lovely house, just minutes from a beautiful beach
We all loved staying here ( 2 adults, 2 girls 9 & 12). This was our third trip to Harris but our first time staying in Keith’s property. We’d definitely stay here again. The rooms are very spacious with gorgeous views. The house was very clean when we arrived and it’s also very well equipped, especially the kitchen. It’s a true home-from-home. It’s a short walk from five beaches which are all viewable from a short walk half way up Ceapabhal. Four smallish (by Harris standards) as well as the awesome Skarista beach. Ceapabhal itself is a good wee hill walk and it only took me and my youngest daughter a couple of hours up and down whilst stopping for pics and packed lunch. The sea was also warm enough to swim in without a wetsuit, once the initial coldness is overcome…it’s not the Med obviously. On the same road as the house is the Temple Cafe so if in need of your caffeine fix or some lovely freshly baked goods it’s super good and handy to boot. There is also Croft 36 which uses an honesty box system for various freshly made items of food. The house is fab, the location is perfect and the island’s spectacular. What else can you ask for?

Perfect location
Very comfortable cottage, peaceful, perfect place to recharge your batteries. Perhaps a little visitor book would be useful, with contact number in and a bit of information about the house, otherwise perfect

Lovely holiday home
The property is in an ideal location for seeing the best of the beaches in South Harris, with the nearest beach just a 5 minute walk away. The house was very comfortable and well equipped, especially if you have young children.

Lovely, comfortable, spotlessly clean accommodation, equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived. Brilliant location for touring Harris and within walking distance of five gorgeous beaches. Our only regret was that we had to leave.

Lovely home with great views
Excellent bungalow with everything we needed and an unexpected and really interesting collection of books and maps. The location is superb and sitting by the windows watching the ever changing light over the bay is totally absorbing. The bungalow is very clean, warm and comfortable so even if the weather is bad a great holiday is guaranteed. The owners’ parents were really helpful and welcoming, as were the neighbours. The bungalow is set in a beautiful part of Harris with lovely walks and amazing sea views but it is easy to get to the rest of Harris and Lewis by car. We hope to ve ableto return soon!

Thank you for a lovely review. My parents-in-law work hard to keep it clean and welcoming. We would love to have you join the growing band of returning guests, I am always looking forward to my next visit. I am currently sitting at the dining table looking out at the rapidly changing view as the light changes on the water. We do love looking at the local maps and finding new spots to visit or walks to take even though my wife grew up here there is always more to discover.

Excellent base to visit Harris
The house is extremely well furnished and equipped. A great place to stay with excellent views. This was out second time staying and we had a lovely relaxing time. There is nothing we can think of to make our stay more comfortable. The house has everything that you need and more. The sun porch at the front has the views and we spent most of our time sitting there taking it all in. So much so that we never had the TV on at all. It was so relaxing and lovely. Many thanks for letting us share.

I am glad you enjoyed the location and layout of the house, it does have a great view from every window, its all too easy to sit in and look out and not get out to enjoy the scenery if you're not careful. I am always impressed by how bright it is and yet has a cosy feel. We are enjoying a stay here ourselves at the moment and it always does feel like coming home.

An extremely comfortable and well equipped house in a dream location
Taransay Cottage has everything any holiday maker would wish in their own home. Warm, very comfortable and spacious and would more than compensate if the weather was bad. Wonderful views to the distant hills/mountains and Atlantic Ocean breaking on Scarasta Beach - this from the sitting areas and the large kitchen. The rare habitat of the machair with its rich bird and plant life foregrounds the view framed by dunes in the mid distance. This is without doubt the best combined property and location we have ever stayed in. A truly wonderful experience with ever changing light and weather conditions. More rainbows in the week than in the rest of my life. Alas no pots of gold but there is The Golden Road nearby! Many thanks Dr David and Frances Dunkin

It was such a pleasure to have somewhere that was clean, warm, light and airy to return to each evening. The property contained everything you could need and more. If there were any problems (which there weren't) family members were close by to assist. Ideally situated centrally to travel north and south for exploring.

Wonderful house, wonderful location
A wonderful property, clean, well furnished and well equipped. It is definitely more of a home than a simple rental house with many extras from beach towels, toys, board games and books. It is a fantastic location, with wonderful views and the beaches a short stroll away. We would definitely recommend the both the property and the island for a stunning peaceful break with fantastic scenery and wildlife.

Great house and location
The house is far more spacious than first impressions suggest. Located a short drive from the ferry port, it is set back from the road and mid way between Croft 36, a purveyor of delicious home cooked food, and the Temple cafe. A five minute walk down the road leads to a good and secluded beach which must surely rank highly amongst the other wonderful beaches on Harris. The house is well equipped,clean and comfortable and despite the caveat posted by the owners about the reliability of the internet connection, we had no problems whatsoever. The characters available to me in posting this review prohibit me from listing all of the places worth visiting on Harris and Lewis, however discovering them for yourself is part of the fun. I would certainly recommend a few drives to the more remote parts of Harris and the south of Lewis, some of the scenery is breathtaking. All in all, we had an excellent week here. Thanks for your hospitality.

Excellent property and amazing views
The property itself is fantastic and exceptionally well equipped. Everything you will need is there, particularly if you have young children (including bucket and spade for the beach). The view from the cottage, even on a wet and misty day, is beautiful. Several beaches are within walking distance and lots more within a short drive. Overall Harris is a great place to spend a week, Northton is an ideal location and this cottage is an ideal base.
