The hotel was a lovely old house restored to a high standard. Our room was very clean, spacious and functional, with a modern bathroom. Breakfast was very good. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back here.

The staff were lovely the room was so comfortable. At breakfast the chef offered to make you anything you wanted and was super friendly. Would definitely recommend. I have stayed here twice now

Room excellent but room 2 saw next door and their bathroom was across the corridor entrance to our room so we could hear their door being opened during the night. Disturbing!

Had a lovely big Lodge, but there wasn’t a mirror in the bedroom only a small handheld makeup mirror in bathroom and a mirror over the bathroom sink, no where to dry hair or straighten hair. Lodge was a great size but lacked finishing touches, a chair would have been nice to sit on and a dressing table. Long driveway was pitch black no lights at all to help you find your way to the hotel in the evenings we had to find our way by torch app on phone. Not safe. The young ladies waiting on in breakfast room were very pleasant and friendly.

We stay one night. The house is located in a quiet place just a short distance from down town. Bedroom and bath clean and comfortable. Breakfast okay. Good place to stay

A well-restored historical small hotel.. Rooms tastefully decorated, however there are a few small issues that could be improved to make a more comfortable stay to elevate the experience. Room needed better situated electrical sockets anywhere near mirror for hairdryer use. Bath towels were too small. Bedside lamp shades not attached to base and fell off. A rather luke-warm welcome on arrival was disappointing.

An evening in Hawick
When we arrived at the Hotel, the half dozen or so parking places were used, so we had to park around the back of the hotel. I went in to pay and l was met by a brisk "Can l help you?" The middle aged Gent dealt with my paperwork, whilst l went out to get my hand bag. I went back in to pay and asked if we could book dinner at the Restaurant, (which was mentioned in the Hotels.com blurb) which was replied to with a disappointing reply that we couldn't book dinner as it wasn't available and that we should head on into the town centre to find food. I was a bit annoyed at this, as we had paid the price for this Hotel, believing, that we should have been able to relax and have dinner at a Hotel of this calibre, especially when the Restaurant was listed in the Hotel's amenities. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was adequate, although l was unable to use the shower as it involved climbing into the bath first! The breakfast the following day, had several choices available with the usual jars of jam, honey, marmalade etc. and a selection of cooked items from a menu. Toast, tea/coffee were also served to the table.

Good apart from dogs
Comfortable room, clean bathroom, nice breakfast. Easy to get into Hawick. Minor downside was difficulty finding anyone to check in or out, neighbourhood dogs barking until 11pm, and other guests large dog being allowed in the upstairs room and landing so we discovered it right outside our room door when we opened it. Would probably stay again but the dog situation is a bit off putting- question of hygiene in bedrooms if they are allowed there

A nice small, quaint and personal hotel
A lovely small and personal hotel with large and spacious room/ensuite. Breakfast was disappointing - a churlish waitress, a potato scone but no square sausage (a cooked breakfast in Scotland but not a Scottish cooked breakfast) - better cutlery and crockery would have been more fitting for Balcary House Hotel than the "Diner" style in use. I would stop here again.

Really lovely hotel, great hosts and lovely room. Nice garden to sit and relax in. Food options were limited but it was the best toastie I've ever had. A real home away from home.

Balcary House is a very nice and comfortable place to stay, and we enjoyed our visit. The staff were very helpful and the property is clean and welcoming. We were slightly bemused when our room was not cleaned after our first night as we had not asked for no cleaning, but with COVID-19 we assumed that this was one of the safety measures. The breakfasts were very good, although the scrambled eggs were unfortunately overcooked for my liking. We didn't take issue with these small things, as they were heavily outweighed by the good points.

When is a hotel not a Hotel?
My mistake - when I booked this hotel I expected to have a meal on arrival after driving 360 miles and working for 11hrs - however there are no evening meals available unless you want a sandwich or quiche. The hosts were very helpful and offered to book me into a restaurant - which I declined. I found a very nice French Restaurant in Hawick and had a very enjoyable meal. The room I was allocated had a "private" bathroom - across a corridor - it would have been a little nice touch if the hosts provided gowns for those early morning trips. The room was very well decorated as wash the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was superb.

A hidden gem.
This was a great find .Room lovely .Made very welcome and discovered the most amazing suite for someone who needs some extra facilities.This had an amazing wet room ,small kitchen and bedroom was so tastefully decorated.The garden was sheltered.Could find no downside to this hotel. .
