Jasper National Park

The dramatic, wild landscapes of Canada’s largest mountain park offer thrilling open-air adventures, hikes among nature and striking scenery.

Jasper National Park is a natural wonderland of untamed mountain peaks, remote lakes and imposing glaciers. Jasper is lesser known to tourists than nearby Banff National Park, making it an ideal destination for travelers looking to escape the crowds and connect with nature. Walk across glaciers, camp beside picturesque lakes and enjoy multi-day excursions along the park’s extensive backcountry trails.

The park features over 660 miles (1,200 kilometers) of hiking trails of varying difficulty. Try the gentle Maligne Canyon trail, which offers views of a limestone canyon that’s over 160 feet (50 meters) deep. For a challenging backcountry hike, try the Skyline Trail, a 27-mile (44-kilometer) long route that highlights some of the park’s most impressive scenery.

Don’t miss Maligne Lake, one of the world’s largest glacier-fed lakes. With glittering blue waters and a border of rugged mountain peaks, this 14-mile (22-kilometer) long lake is among the most picturesque places in the park. Take a kayak or canoe out onto the water and spend the night camping at one of the lakeside campgrounds.

Go for a ride on the Jasper SkyTram, the longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada. The tram offers incredible views over six different mountain ranges, the Athabasca River and pretty Jasper Town.

Unwind in the soothing Miette Hot Springs, the hottest mineral springs in the Canadian Rockies. Soak in the 104 F (40 C) waters while enjoying the surrounding mountain scenery.

Marvel at the Athabasca Glacier, a large glacier fed by the Columbia Icefield alpine lake. Ride the special Ice Explorer bus onto the ice and walk along the surface of the glacier.

Hit the slopes in the Marmot Basin ski area, which features 86 runs and the longest high-speed quad chair in the Rockies. If you prefer cross-country skiing, try the groomed trails around Mildred Lake or Pyramid Lake.

Jasper National Park is located in west-central Alberta, 243 miles (401 kilometers) from Edmonton International Airport and 265 miles (437 kilometers) from Calgary International Airport. Travel around by rental car or use shuttle buses to get from town to town and to reach major trailheads.

Escape into the untouched landscapes of Jasper National Park.
