So disappointed, please avoid at all costs

We were unable to stay in this apartment due to it not being clean upon arrival and a nauseating, rancid smell. To start, the host sent a “colleague” to check us in. He arrived late and then struggled to find the right keys. Upon entry the apartment was still strewn with trash, wet towels, and unwashed beds linens. Every window was open and a sour smell was overwhelming in the living room and kitchen. We waited by an open window for close to an hour while he tried to get updates from the host about cleaners. While he was sincerely apologetic, the host was unresponsive so we left and checked into a hotel. We called and messaged VRBO while waiting, and then logged an official issue after leaving the property. After multiple calls and emails over the past 10 days, we are still awaiting a response regarding a refund. Recommend this neighborhood, but please save yourself the time and disappointment we experienced and book another property.
