2nd visit , great room and evening meal , breakfast expensive though at £15

Would recommend this hotel very clean and staff are very friendly and happy to help air-conditioning very good. Would Abby stay again?

First impressions from the outside weren't good with grafitti on some external parts and a tired exterior. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who allocated our rooms. Before I went up, I decided to go to the bar which was pleasant, however after waiting 10 minutes for anyone to attend, I went back to reception to ask for service, after another 5 minutes I finally got served along with two other people who had been waiting. My first impression of the hotel is that it was in need of refurbishment. I prefer to stay in non-chain hotels as they usually feel more homely and unique, however this hotel does not justify the price. My first room was poor, broken bath panel, cracked window, damage to the sink, faded worktops in the washroom, missing knobs off heating control and a general feel of 'seen better days'. If I had paid £70 for this room I'd have been disappointed, to say we paid £160 for each 'standard' room is extortionate. This is the first time I have ever complained about a hotel room, and I was perfectly pleasant about it. There were no better rooms available, but I was moved rooms anyway, to a similarly tired room. I did suggest they just gave me breakfast as compensation to the receptionist, however the duty Manager brushed over this and ignored the request and simply told me, 'it's an old hotel'. We went out for the evening and I must say the night staff were great, they brought decaf teabags for me and Andy and Tom deserve a special mention.
