"When we arrived the cleaner was still there but we knew she would be because we were early. Once in the cottage seemed really small and low especially all the doorways and in the bedroom the lights hang down low I’m 6’4 and banged my head numerous times my wife is 5’4 and had no problem. A good suggestion in the bedroom would be to put flush ceiling lights in rather than hanging pendants. The car park is really tight and when we came out one morning someone had scraped my car as we were in the big car park just up the road, if you have got a really small car then parking is not a problem. Also after we had cooked breakfast we went to wash the dishes but there was no washing up liquid or no spare bin bags for the bins.the outdoor space is so small and overgrown and didn’t get any sun even on a really sunny day. Steve the host was great and responded really quickly if needed. Overall a nice cottage fit for a hobbit and in a great location "

" We had a wonderful two night stay at Sheriff Lodge, we couldn’t fault it one bit. We stayed in The Dray which was a lovely bright, spacious and tastefully decorated room with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom also was very spacious. It was a pleasure to meet Ziz, she was a very friendly and knowledgable host and cooked a tasty, plentiful breakfast. I particularly loved the homemade Granola which was delicious. The room where we had breakfast was beautiful and characterful. Parking was an added bonus. We parked up for our entire stay, as the Lodge was in a great location for some lovely walks. We would definitely love to stay again when next visiting Matlock. "

"Disgusting value for money, avoid at all costs! What was meant to be a romantic trip for my fiances 50th ended up being a total let down. The hotel has issues spanning from the plumbing to general cleanliness and is going to take a considerable outlay if they ever expect the place to get any guests - far too many to mention here anyway. My main issues was with our room, as it was nearly £100 a night. Firstly the whole place is like a sauna...combine that with stale oil smell and it is very off-putting. Opening the window is fine, but we had a mountain view, so it was on the front next to the road and far too loud to sleep with wide open. The king bed had an indentation in it which made you feel like you was falling to one side - Very uncomfortable. The room next door was occupied with what I believe to be the owners family. Kids shouting at 7am with walls so thin, I could hear every single word they said when talking normally! Broken furniture, dirt and grime everywhere, portable heaters on the floor and extention cables and many many many other issues which I would expect in a Benidorm B&B, not here! "

"13 of us stayed for my sister's hen - lovely property, we were all very impressed and comfortable. Beds comfy, rooms had good storage and I've never seen a better stocked kitchen. Hot tub was a huge hit. Great location, stones throw away from the town centre. Query was resolved promptly through messages with owner. We were all very happy with our stay. Only recommendation would some door stops for the kitchen and living room as they wouldn't stay open without a wedge, but that might be for a fire safety reason. "

"This was a return visit to Waterfall cottage for us. It is so cosy and comfortable with walks accessible from the front door, and a few minutes drive away from Matllock but Bakewell and Chatsworth House are also nearby. Mrs Else is so welcoming and left us a super welcome pack and shared photos of how the cottages were built back in the 80s. We will definitely come back again but for a longer stay as there is so much to do and see."

"This was the perfect accommodation for our annual Christmas family get together. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard, making for a very comfortable stay. The underfloor heating in the bathrooms is wonderful! We hope to stay again."
