"This was our second time renting with Mary and Kevin. They are very friendly and helpful with things to do and see around Saranac Lake. We didn't spend time in the village as our activities included kayaking, hiking and birding, but there is a binder with recommendations and location information. The property is easy check in and has that warm home feeling. On a rainy day, play a board game or find an interesting read or just jump into your favorite streaming app on the large screen TV. Make sure to read the posted notes for quick answer on day-to-day housing questions."
Bear Cabin on Lake Colby, Saranac Lake

"We ( 3 adults and a small dog) enjoyed a week’s stay in late August. The Bear Cabin is very cozy and cute, adorned with all manner of bear themed decorations. Everything in the cabin worked and it all was as described. The kitchen was, for a small cabin, spacious and stocked with a good supply of pots & pans, a selection of spices, etc. The host provided very clear instructions for everything and clear contact info ( which we didn’t need since we didn’t have any issues). We enjoyed the use of one of the kayaks provided as well as our own canoe that we brought. We also enjoyed two very nearby rail trails, Bloomingdale Bog and the Adirondack Rail Trail which crosses Lake Colby, both good places for a dog walk. There is also a nice dog park quite close. In the canoe we explored Lake Colby and, by going through an underpass under the rail trail, Little Lake Colby.The cabin is only a short drive off of the main road which goes right along the lake and there is some road noise, so it is not a “ deep wilderness” experience, but on the other hand it is very easy to pop into the town of Lake Saranac to pick up supplies or reach the two rail trails or the local dog park. My daughter walked from the cabin into town one day. Lake Placid is only about 10 miles away so an easy trip as well. The only power boats on the lake are small and so it was a great place to paddle peacefully and listen to the loons.I would definitely consider this location for a return visit."

"What a great little place Trout Cabin is. The cabin was extremely well-supplied and convenient to the Lake Colby shore, with a public beach within walking distance. Kayaks and canoes were readily available onsite and the cabin was thoughtfully stocked and furnished. I had a wonderful stay."

"Our group of 10 came here to finish the Adirondack rail trail, which we did.Some chose to go fishing instead, with success, on Lake Colby.This house is conveniently located for most outdoor activities.We enjoyed the lake view while relaxing on the wrap-around porch.The kitchen is a little tight for a large group, but otherwise there’s plenty of room to spread out in the vintage living & dining areas. The 125 year old house has been well taken care of & was well suited to our needs."
