Borgo Malvasia- Ca' Palazzo

"We were looking for a unique place to start our holiday and Ca’Palazzo Malvasia really delivered. A former hunting lodge 15 mins outside of Bologna, set in rolling hills and accessed through miles of gravel driveways interspersed with iron gates, the Palazzo is full of sloping corridors, staggered steps, grand rooms and antique furniture, with bookcases bulging with texts from the 1800s. The family room (2 double beds) was fully in keeping with the feel of the place save for a modern bathroom and excellent aircon. We never met any staff as the listing wants to keep out of your way, but they were clearly there in the background, keeping everything running smoothly. Palazzo guests can use a swimming pool and 9-person jacuzzi (not 9 jacuzzis as the listing suggests!) that is shared with guests from a B&B on the estate."

"Nice place in the outskirts of downtown- little hard to find with Mapquest- but we did make it. The hotel is in great shape- the up garden needs a bit of maintenance- but the parking was excellent! Had very good dining experience for dinner- and our room was beautiful- we had the blue suite- which was outstanding- the hot tub on the balcony was fun. "

"We loved the location of the house, and the pool was an absolute lifesaver! The weather during our stay was very hot, 38C most days. So we spent a lot of time in the pool, and revelling in the amazing mountain views. We can see exactly why Giulia's family wanted to have a house here!Giulia was very helpful with sorting out a few details, and we greatly enjoyed meeting Remo, from next door, who looked after the pool very well.We would happily stay in the house again."

"Our stay was overall really great. The pool was lovely, there is a sauna but I didn’t get to use it. The breakfast had a nice selection and almost all of the staff were amazing and helpful. A special shout out to the lady that manages breakfast as she seems to remember everyone and makes an extra effort with all guests! The biggest detriment was the night manager on Sunday the 19th. I came downstairs and there was no one at reception so I wandered over to the restaurant to borrow a fork. I didn’t take it off any table that was already prepared but went to the cutlery pile. On the way back I saw the manager at reception and asked if it was ok that I borrowed the fork to show I wasn’t hiding anything or stealing anything and he was patronising and rude over a fork. Other staff members witnessed his attitude and apologised to me after but there no wonder he is a night manager. It might be better if he wasn’t affiliated with the hotel at all as it left a bitter taste in my mouth."

"Beautiful home in a fantastic location just outside Bologna, with easy access to all that Emilia-Romagna has to offer. The house is beautifully appointed, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed.The caretakers were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating throughout our stay. Traveling with three generations of our family, we especially appreciated that everyone had their own private room while also enjoying the spacious indoor and outdoor gathering areas where we could comfortably spend quality time together.This home was the perfect setting for creating wonderful family memories, and we would be delighted to return someday."
