I gave the hotel OK only because although our room was perfect, clean, well furnished, nicely decorated and very nice shower room, on entering the hotel I was shocked and had expected to be back at reception asking for a refund. The hotel is, I believe by the look of things e.g. plaster lying on the lift floor etc, currently undergoing some refurbishment but it has a very long way to go. There were cracks in the walls and wallpaper and plaster hanging off or coming away, skirting boards terribly unclean etc. I think it could all be down to, in some part, the workmen being around and trailing plaster and dirt as they go. There is no daily maid service, not that it bothered us for a 3 night stay, but all these issues i.e. state of hotel in public areas, work being carried out etc should be at least highlighted to guests before booking and, although being refurbished could make a bit more effort to clean in some areas. As I said however, our sea view room was actually very nice and clean thankfully and the staff were pleasant but did not dine/eat breakfast so cannot comment on food or service quality.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Mansion House. It is within walking distance of all the sites in Elgin plus has very accessible parking. The surrounding walks and neighboring river made me feel like a character in a Jane Austin novel. Iona, Billy and all the staff made us feel like family. We even learned how to play snooker. Breakfast couldn’t have been better or more convenient. Will definitely try to return every time we go to Scotland!!!
