"Big room but it could do with air conditioning or a fan, it was roasting in there as the sun was going down! Breakfast was ok. Place is dated but did the job for a 2 night stay. Lovely staff "

"A gorgeous hotel, super close to Waverley station and to all the sights! The staff were great and super friendly, we were kindly upgraded to a city view room, and the check in service was smooth. We were a little early to check in however, we were advised that it would only be about a 30min wait so we could wait in the bar area and have a complimentary drink which was a nice touch. The whole hotel was great, and I would definitely stay again :)"

"We were quite surprised not to be greeted by an owner or manager on arrival. It also took some time to check in, as the doorbell was not working and we had to call the number provided that we saw after trying to knock and find something to use the door bell with. Overall, the location was good and the property itself was clean and tidy. However, we didn’t appreciate the roofing works being carried out without prior notice, particularly the loud banging and noise starting at 8am and debris on the path to the pedestrian gate."

"This place is amazing and steeped in history and at a very reasonable price however it is the staff which makes this place phenomenal, they cannot do enough for you to make this feel like a £400 a night experience.. stayed there for 8 weeks on buisness and loved it "

"Lots of outside construction made walking a bit more challenging. Convenient alternatives. Easily walk to most attractions and Waverly Station. Clean rooms and comfy beds. Would definitely stay here again. "

"Incredible location, five minute walk from the train station (though uphill) and right in Old Town. Place is clean and stylish, and the jail cell rooms are charming. Laundry was a plus."

"We were looking for a castle stay in Britain as kind of a "bucket list" item. The Melville isn't exactly a "castle," more of a retired/repurposed palace, but the overall experience was what we were looking for - suits of armor, antique paintings and so on. The restaurant is awesome! Great dishes and service! Staff was very helpful. Rooms mixed ancient decor with modern amenties like ample power outlets, modern bathroom, etc. Grounds have many paths for nature walks. Was a nice experience!"

"We loved our stay in this beautiful house. Nicely decorated, including lots of lovely pictures. A very well stocked kitchen, with everything you might need for cooking. Plenty of space, lovely living room.The house is in a great location, 2 minutes from the beach, shops etc 1 minute in the other direction. Regular buses take you right into Edinburgh within 1/2 hour. Would highly recommend this home."
