Room was simple but clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fridge and microwave provided. Good value for proximity to Union Square. Be aware the street is sketchy at times, but security is good and only 2 blocks to restaurants and shopping.

Satisfactory, but know what you're getting
Bare bones, low-cost, but clean and satisfactory Tenderloin hotel. Far more personality than you'll find in your standard Motel 6 type establishment.
There is no bathroom within the unit. There appeared to be about 1 or 2 bathrooms per floor (~20 units). Those bathrooms seemed to be pretty inconsistent in terms of locks. But within each bathroom there's a toilet area and a shower area. Things were surprisingly clean when I was there. This could probably be a problem if there were too many people using the bathroom at once, but for a one-night stay, it was fine.
As another review pointed out, there's no AC, and no screen on the windows, so it won't be ideal for a summer heatwave. However, there is a heater. We went in September though, so there was no need for either.
Bedsheets were all clean and nice. Being able to look out the window at the busy streets of San Francisco was pretty exciting. There's a cafe, a falafel place, multiple corner stores, and much more, immediately outside the hotel. There's also a parking garage around the corner. The hotel was very secure, and only guests were allowed to enter. I love how classic and SF the narrow staircases and stuff were.
And yes, there are homeless people in the Tenderloin. Grow up.
Overall, definitely satisfactory for a single-night San Francisco trip. But know what you're getting, and don't expect Hilton level amenities.
Close to downtown very helpful staff. Near very good Yucatan restaurants also.

The Indian gentlemen who run this hotel go above and beyond to help out
I am a disabled senior and couldnt have been treater better. My nahhage was carried up the elevator to my room
The linens were fresh and the tile bathrooms
My baggage was cheerfully carried to my room since I am a disabled senior.
As for the comments about the noise and homeless on the street? get earplugs- this is the Tenderloin and enjoy the ambience since you are saving a lot of money.
Highly recommended for adventurous travelers who appreciate historical buildings
It’s in the tenderloin of sf so prepare for that. The rooms are cold and make sure to ask for a towel. For the cost maybe worth it but wow that neighborhood is beyond noisy.
The photos of the Riviera Hotel didn’t match the room I was given. In fact I was assigned a dorm room (for $76), which wasn’t I purchased. I will pursue this with Expedia.

Liked: Staff & service
Nice staff, good service, area is a little sketchy, but it doesn’t seem that anybody will mess with you
Kumar and his staff members were extremely courteous and professional. I had inadvertently booked the wrong kind of room on Expedia and Kumar worked out a deal for me to get the room that I wanted.
Walking to and from this place even during broad daylight is frightening. Lots of druggies. Room was small. Shared bathroom. No heat. Extremely loud. The manager was conveniently never there. The absolute worst stay in my entire life. Zero stars.
Horrible place. I’m warning you this place is terrible and NOT SAFE!

It's a great group. The neighborhood is safe and my family will make sure you are taken care of no matter what. San Francisco is my home. It's the type of place where you walk around at 3am and people just want to help.
When we arrived there were so many homeless people harassing me I ended up not being able to check in. They were crowded around the hotel door. Very scary
