"The hotel is conveniently located just a short distance downhill from Piazza Garibaldi (the entry to the main pedestrian zone of Cortona). However, parking is on-street nearby and arriving on a fine Saturday afternoon, it was challenging to find a space. I had to park in a paid space located a distance away for check-in, and only managed to find a free spot later when the day tourists had left.
Parking issues aside, the hotel itself is lovely and cosy, and all the staff I met, from reception to restaurant, were genuinely warm and attentive. The breakfast was a standout – instead of the usual dry scrambled eggs and limp bacon, there was asparagus wrapped in bacon, baked eggplant topped with diced tomato, baked stuffed tomatoes, fried eggs with avocado slides, and many more visually appealing dishes I did not have space in my stomach to sample. I have never had such a unique and delicious hotel breakfast anywhere.
The hotel also offered some small bites for happy hour in the evening, but these were not as good as breakfast and were quickly gone without being replenished.
I got a very good deal on Expedia, visiting in the off-season in late November. If the price is right, I would definitely stay at Hotel Villa Marsili again if I return to Cortona or its vicinity. Highly recommended hotel!"
Casa Bacco - private house with a remarkable garden in the centre of Cortona
10/10 Excellent
"Casa Bacco is a comfortable, quiet, well furnished, spacious and well situated house that has been modernized and updated to high standards. What I especially enjoyed was being in the middle of a real neighborhood, hearing the neighbors chat, the children play, listening to the church bells ringing, and seeing the amazing sunsets over the Valley from the windows of the house. My best advice would be not to have a car because parking around Cortona is nearly impossible. I had to park my car a great distance away (which was fine, to a point, because once you're in Cortona you don't need to leave, and I was taking a two week language course at Polymnia). My stay was heavenly, and the people who manage the property were kind, attentive and always ready to provide assistance. The Church of San Francesco is a three minute walk from the house, and the nearest gelateria is only a six minute walk. A person doesn't need much more than that!"
"Luca was an outstanding host! He was truly warm and welcoming and made us feel at home. The views are stunning and change minute by minute as you soon realize you are in the sky amongst the clouds. "
"The photos for this property does not do it justice. The view from the terrace and the pool is just beyond amazing. Everything is nicely layout. It is an older property but everything felt authentic to the age of the house and the town. The bed where really comfortable, the pool was wonderful as was the garden. Luca, our host, was lovely and even help us out when we could not find milk in the town center. The walk up the hill is not for the faint of heart but if you zig zag up the hill you discover how amazing Cortona is. "
