We are so saddened to receive your review. I apologise that you felt that all was not as we would hope for you.May I take a moment to address your comments:Perspective is of course everything. You mention there is not a proper check in yet there is clearly a dedicated reception desk which you approached on arrival. The member of reception staff who checked you in came out of the kitchen on your arrival so you assumed she was kitchen staff. She was not, however the fact that she came from the kitchen area gave you that initial perception despite the fact that she was dressed in a smart waistcoat and not chef whites.You say you asked for a ground floor room and that you were put in a basement room. To clarify you booked a specific room not a room type. You booked Superior Superking located on the lower ground floor at garden level. This room has a beautiful large bay window as well as a side window and is clearly not in a basement. Your perception was that by going down stairs you were going to a basement despite the fact that you went up a significant stone staircase to enter the building. We have a raised entrance floor and a lower ground floor which is level with the garden area, not a basement level. This is a norm with Victorian buildings such as ours.You say that the room smelled musty and the carpet was dirty. I do apologise if you felt that this was the case. Interestingly we had one of the owners and our head housekeeper check that room on that day after you left and no problem with smell was noted and indeed the carpet was not at all dirty. It is also of interest that the guests before you and after you did not report any problem at all with that room, indeed their reviews were very positive.As I say perspective is everything, our perspective, given that you did not even enquire about a room change and you chose to not stay with us at all and go straight to Edinburgh, is that you were actually not interested in staying in Stirling at all. So you say that you are disappointed in your experience for which we are extremely saddened, we are also disappointed that you did not actually stay and experience what many tell us is one of the best stays they have had in Scotland.We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in Scotland.

Sorry you feel that way.We are a beautiful Victorian Building and the bathroom gives a nod to the period despite having underfloor heating, nice strong gravity fed rain shower, back heated fully lit mirror. A small but well equipped ensuite.You selected a standard room yet the bedroom has superking bed, spacious seating area, silent mini fridge, bespoke furnishings made to our requirements and a beautiful view across some lovely gardens and the city.We are so sad to hear that you feel this is average.
