"We stayed in Room number one. It was incredible. It was such a wonderful experience to stay in a historic building that had modern amenities and a lot of space. The room decorations and sliding doors were beautiful. The living room overlooks the garden. Everything was clean. "The hotel is brand new and in pristine condition, but there were some notable operational quirks. It doesn’t seem like management is able to decide whether this is a luxury property or a select service hotel - even though there were two reception desks staffed at all times, the staff were actively pushing customers to use the three self-service kiosks for all operations (check-in, breakfast coupons, check-out) and actually doing the work for them on those machines. Not sure what the point of that was or whether it should be the case in a luxury property. Similarly, the public bath in the basement is pretty underwhelming, if pristine. All that said, the rooms were spotless, staff were very helpful and spoke English impeccably, and breakfast was great both in terms of food selection and quality."

"There are lots of amenities here -like the public bath and the big fancy breakfast- but assume you will need to compete for every resource, from a breakfast table to a shoe locker. The lobby felt like a combination of a college dorm and an airport gate. Things are generally good in your room, and all supplies were in order. Walls are thin enough I was woken up by my neighbor’s alarm every morning. Breakfast waits at 6:45 AM were about 45 minutes. I spilled some hand wash soap on the area in front of the sink and learned that the floor was not nearly as clean as it appeared."

"Very nice Ryokan! Slightly removed from the core but there are 2 buses that regularly go into town so its not a huge issue. We stayed in the private room on the lower floor with the private zen garden, highly recommend if its available as it was amazing for late night drinks, and the sounds of night and the river that runs beside the ryokan. A must stay for a traditional experience! One Laundry + dryer on site for a small charge (plus you need to buy a detergent packet from the front desk, 200yen). The Japanese style breakfast was delicious, make sure you let the staff know the day before if youd like to have it, its 1500yen per person and well worth it! Will definitely be staying here again next time."

"The owner Tomi is extremely attentive and will provide you with a multitude of services within and around the guest house. The traditional Japanese rooms are located on the second floor up a VERY STEEP set of stairs, keep that in mind for luggage and beverages. The onsen around the corner is super nice and you’re nearby to both JR station and local subways. Tomi also cooks egg breakfast sandwiches daily 7-9 am, has tea, coffee, and cold water/electric kettle available anytime. 12-5 pm is cleaning hours and you cannot stay in the building during this time as far as I’m aware."
