From the moment we drove onto the grounds, our stay at Ballyseede was a magical transformation. The owners have done an outstanding job of walking the fine tightrope between preserving the historical ambiance that is so romantic and providing modern amenities that travelers come to expect.
Our room was exquisitely appointed, giving us the feeling of being distinguished guests of a long-ago lord. The common areas are all painstakingly preserved and are a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed spending time just wandering around the opulent grounds, enjoying the statues, gazebo, and the beloved Irish Wolfhound who stands guard over the grounds.
We chose for our evening meal to dine in the formal dining room. This was as much a feast for the eyes as it was the stomach. Every course was delicious, and served with style and elegance. We were set up at our table facing out toward the courtyard to where it felt as though we were the only ones there. The Irish breakfast the next morning was among the best I'd ever had.
While the rest of of tour through Ireland involved popping into villages, shopping, and seeing the raw beauty of the Emerald Isle, our stay in Ballyseede Castle was an activity unto itself. We vowed that we will return to County Kerry, and Ballyseede will be our choice of stay.
