Very friendly restaurant staff. Reception team efficient and very helpful. Asked us about a ramp for my son's wheelchair anytime we came in and out of the hotel. Afternoon tea was an excellent experience. Since covid this is the 1st place that did housekeeping which really made us feel we were on a holiday.
Very comfortable hotel which has elegant gentility which we hope is preserved by the future owners. The staff were efficient and friendly. Enjoyed our stay so would thoroughly recommend this hotel
Avoid room 17 and presumably a few more rooms affected by the presence of the kitchen extractor fan just outside their windows. I didn't mind the pretty awful view on the back of the hotel but this extractor fan came on every morning at 7:00 and wasn't turned on until they had finished the dinner service at night. Not much chance to get any sleep when it's on. Very unsympathetic response when I asked to be moved, clearly used to people complaining and as they were apparently full nothing they could do. Overall the hotel looks tired and in need of a complete refit. Food was quite disappointing too, breakfast very average, dinner not up to much and service erratic. Shame that such a lovely building in such a nice setting is being let down by a lack of investment and uncaring staff. Not that many alternatives in Ventnor so I feel they're just not interested in trying any harder.
Enjoyed the location and surroundings. Particularly impressed with the service provided by the staff and the
high quality of the food.

The property was gorgeous. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was located a short walk from the ocean and from the town. Staying at The Royal Hotel was a pleasurable experience that made my time on Isle of Wight exceptional.
Old World Service! This hotel knows how to treat you. Nothing was too much to ask. Great location just up the hill from the beach. Food was amazing. And, when there was no taxi to take us to the train station, Steve, the night porter drove us! All the staff were over the top; Amanda and Janice at breakfast. Can’t say enough about the level of service! Our room was lovely with a comfy bed. Beautiful grounds. Wonderful piano player at dinner. Fun to lounge at the pool in the sun and order cocktails. We gushed over this place for days. It will be a special memory for a very long time. 10!
This has an old-world graciousness and courtesy which is sadly lacking in many facets of life in 21st century.
The quiet, relaxing ambience, and the feeling that nothing is too much trouble is the strength of this lovely old hotel.
Really excellent food. Superbly comfortable beds. Lovely sea views.
Probably the best service, I have had in this country and that comes from a former travelling salesman.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms. Fantastic breakfast. We also had lunch there and the food was lovely. The bar's a tad expensive.
Will be going back.
We had a wonderful overnight stay. They kindly upgraded our room on arrival to a ‘garden view room’ which was lovely and the view from our window was not just the garden & terrace area but a fantastic view of the sea. It was also only a short 5 min stroll down to the sea front. We had cocktails in the bar in the evening, but on this occasion didn’t dine in. However, breakfast service was excellent. Staff were courteous and friendly and we would happily recommend this hotel. It’s more of an ‘oldy worldly’ experience with a lovely bar area and lounge areas. It felt like the grandeur of stepping back in time. It was a relaxing experience and we look forward to future stays.
Beautiful hotel located close to the beach although there is a very steep hill down to the promenade so not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. Staff were very welcoming and efficient and I particularly liked that breakfast was made to order (also a good selection). Only negatives was shower pressure was not great and my breakfast wasn’t hot.
Lovely traditional hotel. Comfortable beds/rooms. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Convenient to local walking paths and Ventnor botanical garden. Several good restaurants within 15 minute walk
Service was great with all staff being friendly and professional. Issues with toilet constantly draining, no cold water coming from the tap and rooms being incredibly hot!
I would call this an older, traditional hotel with a higher price. Great location. Amenities are fine. Rooms are older, but in good order and well cared for. Service from staff was great.
This hotel is very traditional with a beautiful ballroom style dining room for breakfast. The breakfast was first class and the service impeccable. The bedroom was very comfortable although the decor was very conservative. The main colour in the corridors was mushroom and so quite dull.
Excellent location, however due to private event we couldn’t reserve a table for dinner which is a part of experience, I would recommend to sell room with discount rate , when private event taking place at the hotel
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal this weekend with the family, Friendly attentive staff were amazing, lovely room & wonderful food - Dinner & breakfast, can’t recommend highly enough, will definitely return.
This is a well preserved 4 star hotel with excellent service and food.
Do not expect air conditioning.
There is a lift for access to upper floors. The beds are comfortable. Ensuite bathroom may not have an extract fan but a window is provided. In bedroom. Clothes cupboard is quite small but there are drawers in side tables and desk. Small colour tv is mounted on wall. Kettle tea making facilities, biscuits and complimentary water bottles provided.
The hotel itself is nice, nice gardens, nice location and has a 4 star feel. Staff is friendly and helpful.
The rooms are completely overpriced. We had booked a “saver double” - 165 GBP - so not that much “saver“... it was clean, but overall like a better B&B room. So we upgraded. This room was much nicer with a nice view onto the sea. But still not 4 stars: you couldn’t shut the door to the bathroom (don’t they have a handyman to take care of such things??) and the headboard of the bed was filthy. Urgh...
