Exactly what we needed after a long flight from Seattle. Modest rooms but comfy beds. The food in the restaurant was incredibly delicious! Four of us ordered different items for dinner and breakfast and everything was superb. Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Room was a little dark and outdated but spacious and clean with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Nothing fundamentally wrong with anything at the Cat and Lion, it just left me with a sense of everything being cut down to a price. No staff in the hotel lobby but clear directions to let you know to check in at the pub. Food range was limited. I went for the fresh baked pizza. It was severely lacking in toppings and felt overpriced. The breakfast had tinned mushrooms, the thinnest slice of black pudding I have ever seen (less than one centimetre thick) which meant it was overcooked and tough as a biscuit. The rest of the dish was okay, reasonably cooked and tasty enough, just felt that someone was cutting corners. As I say, nothing fundamentally wrong, just a bit underwhelming. It was a striking contrast to my stay the following night at the Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, which was superb and for a difference of £2 overall.

Breakfast and Dinner in the adjoining pub is great, couldn’t fault the quality or price. Rooms are a bit tired, but for the price adequate if you just want a bed for the night.

The hotel was exactly what we required, convenient and ideally located just off the motorway. Quiet at nights, comfortable and clean. The staff that we encountered were all very friendly and welcoming. The food in the neighbouring pub was first class. We would definitely use this hotel again when in the area.

The place shows a lot of promise. The reception was very impressive and the we had a nice confortable sleep. Even so, the room was not in great shape. There were stains in the sofa, mold around the window and in the bathroom. There were holes in the walls that had not been plastered over and the bathroom tub had significant rust around the drain.

Everything was fine except there was no body wash in the shower and I was counting on it in before leaving. That was disappointing however, the hotel as such was good!

Disappointing stay at this hotel. Room was dirty (hairs in the bath) and in a state of disrepair. Reception staff are hardly ever there if you have any issues. The pub staff were rude and unprofessional and the management team ignore your feedback and comments. Rooms were not at all like the photos advertised. We found mould patches on the walls as well as patches on the walls where things had been removed and not filled in or plastered over. There was also hair in the bath when we arrived…not very pleasant especially when children have to use it. Breakfast in the pub was a let down - both the food and service. We walked into the pub at 8.55am as the doors were open (breakfast was meant to be served from 9am). There were no staff around and when someone finally appeared we were practically told off for coming in before 9am and told we would have to wait as the tills weren’t in yet and the chef hadn’t even arrived (!). It’s a shame because the pub itself is so nicely decorated but the staff and the hotel rooms really let the place down. Really poor value for money and we won’t be returning!

Pub attached to the hotel which was convenient, and a nice area with parking which was an added bonus. Room was nice with a decent size bathroom and very clean.

Only two little things, the second pull out was super hard for the kiddies and it wobbled. And I struggled in the bathroom in the shower with out a grab rail. As I say two very minor things the rest was amazing will definitely stay again if needed

We stayed here whilst visiting family and doing day trips to Manchester and Liverpool. This hotel is on the outskirts of Stockton Heath which is lovely and a nice place to visit. It is also close to the Motorways. The room itself was quite basic but that was fine because we were out most of the time. It was clean but the bathroom was dated and had holes in the walls where cabinets had been. It needs plastering and updating. The kettle blew a fuse but was quickly replaced. The staff were friendly and the food was good. I’ve stayed there before and would stay there again but hopefully next time the bathroom has been improved.

Hunt Porter, local Brewery hotel in Warrington
This hotel was an interesting hotel with a social history. It is situated conveniently and there is a lovely walk leading to a leafy park across the road. There was a quaint old post-office on the corner where I could get basic toiletries etc. Our only criticism was that the traditional family beer was off, the duvet was far too luxurious for hot summer temperatures and we could not open the window sufficiently because of a security wire. It was a very close, hot night. Otherwise, we were impressed by the value and cleanliness.

It was pleasant and clean, however the room and bathroom were looking a little tired. holes in walls and paint missing. nothing major, but would look better if they were fixed. the bed was very comfortable and there was an ironing board which was useful.

Family visit.
We stayed a few times previously when it was a Premier Inn, and this was a big improvement. The room was really nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Check in was over the pub bar and staff weren't too helpful, just taking the money and giving me the key, with no offer of any further help. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall good value and will probably return.
