"Check in was fast and friendly, the room was spacious and clean, and the view of the pacific was wonderful while enjoying breakfast off the balcony."

"Hotel was a gem in the Carlsbad village. Walking distance to resturants and shops. One concern was the room placement where air conditioning units of the other building were right in front of the balcony along with being right next to the elevator, too noisy for us. The front desk should warn clients this before placing them in such a room. The breakfast and the mid day treat was a nice touch."

"Staff is extremely helpful with getting you checked in and navigating the property. Our room was clean and spacious, the kids enjoyed having their own area. My only complaint is that our room was next door to the gym and unfortunately for us the gym is open from 7am-10pm… so we woke up to weights being dropped repeatedly. Being that the rooms are so close to the gym maybe the gym hours should be from 8 or 9am-10pm. We went to the dragons den (MAKE A RESERVATION!!!) for dinner and we enjoyed our food, the breakfast buffet while delicious it was chaotic - for breakfast a reservation does not mean you’ll be checked in at that time since you still have to wait in line to check in and be seated (GET THERE EARLY!!!) and there’s so many people but that’s expected since it’s a family centered hotel. There were so many options for breakfast (cereal, eggs, French toast, pancakes, chilaquiles, biscuits and gravy, fruit, etc) so there’s something for everyone. To get to the Legoland park it only took a hop, skip, and a jump to get there. Definitely would recommend staying at the hotel, it is as one of the easiest stress free trips we’ve had with the kids."

"The stay at Tamarack was wonderful! Very clean property. You'll see the staff is constantly cleaning. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The location is amazing being right across the street from the beach. The room was very nice and well kept. The breakfast was good. It was very convenient and had a nice place to sit and eat indoor or outdoor. The property is also very kid friendly with a nice pool and a rec room with pool tables, TV's, library, gym, movie rentals. There is a nice restaurant on site but also so many great places within walking distance. There is also a rooftop area with seating that overlooks the ocean. Overall, a very lovely stay and we will definitely be coming back when we visit Carlsbad."

"I like Scandia; peaceful place. If you are a respectful guest and follow the rules of the property you will have a good stay. Be mindful of noise and remember others paid to be at the motel too. The management is kind and appreciates good guests. Scandia gives you the best of 2 areas. Located on the Northern tip of Carlsbad Village, it is surrounded by parks, a private school (historic Army/Navy Academy, love their chimes at night!) and the Buena Vista lagoon (first ecological reserve in Ca.). The moon over the lagoon at night is mesmerizing and beautiful. Lots of birds. The train runs at the back of the motel but it just becomes background with an occasional slow freight train or a quick Amtrak going by, not noisy. It’s the best of Carlsbad and neighboring Oceanside as it is on the border. Oceanside has a booming restaurant scene emerging with an interesting vast array of cuisine choices. Oceanside is a little more funky and Carlsbad has history and architecture. You can walk into Oceanside from Scandia as the area is pedestrian-friendly. The surrounding eucalyptus/pine trees are very old and tell their own story of the area. The room is cozy, has all you need. Free parking near your room, microwave, fridge, heater/fan, nice bathroom/shower. Place is very well run and organized. Good housekeeping staff! You can walk a few minutes to the sand and waves. I have all good things to say of Scandia. Well-lit and security cameras, safe for the solo traveller."
