Family of four recently enjoyed a wonderful week at Bank Cottage. Main purpose of the trip was to introduce my sons to fishing and the location is absolutely perfect for that due to the private access to the river with several spots to choose from. Both boys landed their first fish within minutes and over the course of the week we'd landed a whole shoals of Dace, Roach, Gudgeon, Chubb and some nice-sized Bream. When not fishing the location is such that you can just sit back and enjoy the view, watching the extensive variety of wildlife go about its day - butterflies, moles, horses, dragonflies, swans, ducks, herons, cormorants, wagtails, several species of tit, very plump robins, pheasants, even the back end of a vole disappearing into the undergrowth - and, to crown it all, the resident kingfisher going back and forth across the river. Absolutely idyllic, with every day bringing something new. There's plenty to do in the area - walks along the river bank, boats can be hired for the day from Upton Marina, Great Malvern 2 minute drive and Worcester easily accessible by train from there (10 mins); the highlight was the view from the top of the Malvern beacon, which was absolutely spectacular and well worth the short hike from the Beacon car park - there are more challenging climbs if you are into that sort of thing. The cottage itself is well-appointed, with everything you need for a cosy, comfortable stay; best of all was the wood-burner which kept us toasty on the one day with rain; the owners had already laid out the fuel so it just needed lighting and there was endless extra fuel available from the log-pile. All appliances worked fine, there is a good information pack to help, with a few books and games as well. The Wifi was fine - thumbs up from both boys, who are the toughest judges - and we were able to use the Firestick without issue; main TV signal was good in all rooms. We found the beds comfortable and no-one had any problems dropping off, helped by the location - proper dark and quiet which made a real change for us townies. An unexpected treat was watching the sun come up from the comfort of the bed - one bedroom looks directly east over the river and farmlands. Finally, a word of thanks to Alison and her husband who we met a couple of times and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable - Job done! All in all a wonderful place that I heartily recommend and to which we would have no hesitation in returning.
