Room had bedside light and bathroom extractor that didn’t work. We complained and were moved to a better room for the second night of our stay. We had dinner on the first night the menu was limited, expensive and ostentatious. My wife couldn’t find a starter that she wanted to eat, never seen a menu that didn’t offer a soup or a plain starter. Main course was beef cheek for me the meat was tender with a pleasant glossy sauce, it was served with a tiny carrot half a shallot and a spoonful of mashed potato. Still hungry I ordered cheese cake which was tiny with a strange tasting sorbet. Breakfast was included and was excellent.

Spa hotel in North Yorkshire

Lovely hotel in the very quaint Helmsley - our suite with a balcony overlooking the pool and hot tub was fabulous and spacious. All the team were friendly, efficient and courteous and very responsive. Complimentary parking and plenty of spaces was very welcome- always a plus .

Excellent hotel. Room was clean and spacious and comfortable. All staff were top notch. Facilities were wonderful, especially the pool and spa area. Perfect location being a very brief walk to the village centre. Beautiful walks nearby. The castle and abbey very close too. Lots to do and see in the nearby area. Best place we’ve stayed so far!

Lovely hotel. Great location

Excellent hotel made even better by a free upgrade. It is located in the Town of Helmsley great parking as they have their own underground car park. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given a free upgrade to a poolside suit which was fantastic. The hotel itself is very well maintained and feels very comfortable. We used the hotel bar which was well staffed comfortable and drinks were reasonably priced. We had breakfast in the hotel which was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Will certainly go again.

Enjoyable stay

Lovely, friendly staff. Took the dog and there was a bowl, blanket and biscuit waiting for her. Pool is to die for - warm and inviting. Dined out so can't comment on the evening meal, but breakfast was tasty. They allowed us to eat in the snug with the dog and even gave her a sausage, which was appreciated. The only negative I can think of, is that the pillows were on the hard side. The room was spacious and clean.
