1st & LAST VRBO Experience. False advertising.
Search criteria: pool, near Georgia world Congress center, accommodates 4, handicap accessible, free parking.
We had been planning for awhile. I sent a few inquiries. This was my first experience with a vacation rental site - we usually book hotels or thru a rental agency and we probably should have stayed in our lane.
A comfy room and a little pooltime were a priority for me, as I'm disabled and my college kids were here attending a convention. I knew I'd be spending most of my time at the rental.
I booked in March for our vacation in (late) May.
I let the host know my needs, pool access, cozy room that comfortably sleeps 4, a coffee pot, kitchenette... Nothing fancy, but the things I did want, I was firm on. She reassured me. I sent another message right before my cancellation deadline (May 10)... Again, reminding her - pool, comfort, disabled, basics.... She seemed sweet. Asked her what kind of coffee pot the apartment had - joked about how I can't live without my coffee and couldn't wait to be drinking it poolside. At this point, I was getting excited.
The 1 bedroom apartment was listed as having 2 full sized beds in the one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a dinette, a bathroom...
Upon arrival, no handicap ramp, access or parking.
I'm not in a wheelchair, my kids and my walker and some fancy footwork - we got it. Might be a serious struggle for wheelchair due to ongoing construction.
We get to the room, I video walk-thru. Nothing like the photos. Only ONE full size bed (not queen, not king, just full and just ONE) and a rickety roll away army style cot.
There is no bedroom door.
The closet door is off the hinges, some cosmetic stuff.
All the cute, personal touches in the the photos? All the thoughtful things in the pics that endear you to the hosts and make it seem like a real vacation, all staged. Totally phony. None of those things are real. No coffee pods, bring your own. No adorable wine glasses set out to make you feel fancy romance-y. No shampoo or conditioner or soap (in spite of the ad photos and listing them as being included).
Oh yeah..... And now we have to go find some place, in a city we have never been in, to buy an air mattress.
The pool? The priority? Unuseable. Green. Fire alarms. Trash is everywhere in the building. Lots of pet poo. Lots of construction. This is a great place for a single person that needs a place to crash for a few days and doesn't care much about amenities. NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN!!!
