I have stayed in some shockers (including Soviet Romania in the 1980s), but this place really is the pits. Probably used to be one of Brighton's top hotels , but Britannia have cynically taken it on clearly with no intention of re-furbishing it or spending any money on it at all in order simply to screw money out of an endless stream of first time customers who will never return.
Unbelievably run down and in serious need of major repairs. The windows and bathrooms are filthy, the furniture is broken, and there is not even a housekeeping service! The breakfast buffet is a complete joke - they don't seem to have heard of mueseli. The fruit is all canned and the cooked breakfast looked absolutely disgusting. There is no free internet either - what kind of a hotel makes you pay for internet access?!! Even paid it's the slowest wi-fi connection in the observable universe! About 1 byte per month!
The location might seem to be good until you actually try to sleep and you experience the din from the thousands of drunken revellers staggering about from 11pm to at least 3am. Like trying to sleep in the middle of a football stadium!
I don't know how they have the nerve to operate this place. And it's not even cheap! A standard twin (without sea view) is £190!!
Let me be clear that this is NOT a criticism of the staff - they were all friendly, polite and helpful. I feel sorry for them having to work in such a dump as this, because they must have to deal with a LOT of complaints.
