Marvel at the views, while the kids compare the salty water of the Dead Sea to other bodies of water in the interactive museum.

The Dead Sea Panoramic Complex consists of a museum and a restaurant with stunning views of the water. Among its highlights is the cliff top viewing platform that actually stands at sea level, with the Dead Sea far below. Enjoy the spectacular vista of this exceptional basin of water, with the Judaean Mountains forming a dramatic backdrop on the horizon.

Follow the 0.9-mile (1.4-kilometer) Zara Cliff Walk to reach the viewing platform. It is fairly straightforward and accessible for the whole family. Listen to the piercing calls of Tristram’s starlings, as they soar across the valley. Try to find a cute-looking hyrax, which seems like a cross between a rabbit and a guinea pig.

Bring binoculars and cameras to fully appreciate the glorious panorama, which incorporates the Dead Sea basin and the Jordan Rift Valley. The view is particularly special at sunrise and sunset, when the surrounding mountains appear to turn golden. Stay into the evening to see the bright lights of Jerusalem in the distance.

To learn about the cultural and historical context behind the Dead Sea and its surrounding terrain, visit the Dead Sea Museum within the complex. It tells the story of the sea and its connection to humans through a mix of videos, panels and displays.

Study the exhibits about what is being done to preserve the salty basin and view the displays on the local ecosystems. The museum shop sells a range of natural products from the area. Enjoy a meal in the restaurant, whose windows overlook the Dead Sea. There is a fee to enter the site, which opens daily from morning until late evening.

The Dead Sea Panoramic Complex stands on the edge of the Zara Mountain Range, overlooking its namesake basin of water. Drive northwest from the Ma’in Hot Springs for 3.4 miles (5.4 kilometers) to arrive here in roughly 10 minutes. You can also take a taxi. Explore the area for other attractions such as the Wadi Zarqa Ma’in Lower Trail.
