Marlborough Hotel

8/10 Good
"Clean and safe, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient for the station, the river walk, and the centre. Many pubs, restaurants, and cafes in walking distance. However amenities were a little lacking, even for the price. I stayed for two nights, first in a 3-person family room and then in a single with shared bathroom. The WiFi was patchy in the first room and didn’t always reach my room, and there was no bedside lamp or way of switching off the main light from the bed in the second, so it was very inconvenient to read in bed. The toilet was very close to my room and free whenever I needed to use it but there was no hook or shelf for my towel and toiletries (no sink in my room) and no hand towel. The shower was just a closet in the corridor with a shower inside, just one hook on the door and no dry place to change or store clothes, so presumably if I’d had a shower I would have had to go to and from my room in a towel. For this reason I didn’t use the shower. There was also no shelf in the shower for toiletries, just a small holder for shampoo or something. I think it was probably designed by a man who uses all-in-one shower gel/shampoo, lol. I’d stay again because the price is good but probably not for more than a night in the shared bathroom single room because of the shower situation. I’d suggest to the hotel that they could make a few small changes (hooks and a shelf in the shared toilet, bedside reading lights, another extension for the WiFi)"

Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort

10/10 Excellent
"One approaches the hotel with a drive through beautiful woodland and then arrive at a breathtakung Elizabethan revival manor house, the archtecture is truly impressive and the interior does not disappoint either. Our room was immaculate and the facilities are top drawer, Swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and a very smart spa. If golf is your thing there is a lovely golf course and driving range. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful which helps to create a very pleasant and relaxing vibe, all of which makes Dunston the perfect place for a relaxing break, we will definetly be coming back. Well recommended."

"A really nice hotel for a special occasion, the staff were both friendly and helpful, while food was lovely. We stayed in the Boutique Suite, which was wonderful. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars was because the jacuzzi bath had an issue with the plug, which meant we were not able to enjoy this as much as we would have liked due to the bath losing water. This was reported to reception. While the food was lovely, we were bombarded by flies in the restaurant, which was a bit annoying when you're trying to enjoy a nice meal. Other than that, we had a lovely stay and will happily return again in the near the future."
